What the... where did all these games come from?! Just when you thought there was a lull in gaming and you had time to actually try and play catch-up, guess what's supposed to come out in the next couple of months (give or take a few days, and barring delays of course):

a)BioShock -looks pretty sweet! Also, it's not just a FPS, you can save the innocents, or apparently exploit them...definitely adds new spins!

b)MP3 -does anyone doubt this will be amazing?! Coming in less than one month to your Wii!

c)Guitar Hero III for Wii! -this has gotta make Zane happy smile I wonder if the motion sensor will know when you twist your guitar and stuff...

d)Alien Syndrome -just released! If anyone has played it, let us know what you think! It sounded awesome at any rate...

e)Zelda: Phantom Hourglass -you know you're gonna buy it. Don't even try to resist...

f)Rune Factory: Fantasy Harvest Moon -I loved the original HM, I wonder how this one shall turn out?

g)Luminous Arc -it's Atlus...

h)Growlanser: Heritage of War Special Edition -woah! Where did this come from?! Another Atlus hit...SIGH...

i)Riviera: The Promised Land -great RPG, only better, and on the PSP, so you can play it on the big screen with the upcoming PSP system smile Oh yeah, forget to add "damn you Atlus"!

j)Brave Story: New Traveler -might be good, might suck...

k)Final Fantasy Tactics: War Lions -crap... another 100+ hour game that will be utterly addicting!

l)Dungeons & Dragons Tactics -could be a cheap copy, or it could be glorious...time will tell.

m)Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa -OK, it's Richard Garriott, so there's a lot riding on this! It could end up being as big as WoW, or it might sink... but it's got a legend in the industry behind it!

Ugh... how the hell do kids have time to play all this? Back in the day (hehe) I remember when you got excited over one game that was coming out in half a year or so...

edit: oh yeah, as Wanderer mentioned, Persona 3 is coming out as well (perhaps it's best to simply send Atlus your monthly paycheck tongue

Also, I haven't even touched upon Holiday games such as Nights, Super Mario Galaxies...etc...

cheers,

Wanderer Jul 29, 2007

Out of that list, the only thing that I'm interested in (translation: Have the hardware for) is BioShock (for the PC). Persona 3 looks interesting too (although it's not on your list).

Although I have found myself playing through Megaman X Anniversaries lately. I'm not very good at it. Age has dulled my platform reflexes, it seems. wink

Ryu Jul 29, 2007

Atlus hasn't gotten as much as a dollar from me in years.  In current chronological order according to Gamefly and until the end of October:

Lair (PS3)
Metroid Prime 3 (Wii) *
Dynasty Warriors Gundam (360)
Dewy's Adventure (Wii)
Eternal Sonata (360)
Battalion Wars 2 (Wii)
Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Legend of Zelda Phantom Hourglass (DS) *
Grand Theft Auto IV (360)
Zack and Wiki Quest for Barbaros' Treasure (Wii)
Ace Combat 6 (360) * (although I preordered this, along with Galaxy and Brawl, today at Gamestop and will buy them at release)
Jericho (360)
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles (PSP) *
Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions (PSP) *

... that's 14 games between now and the end of October tentatively, not counting any dropped or added or purchased digitally on the VC, XBLA, or PSN.  I put a star next to those that I'm fairly certain I will buy.

jb Jul 29, 2007

Bioshock does look pretty sweet but I'm afraid it probably won't hold up to the greatness of Deus Ex. hmm

And since I don't own any consoles the rest don't apply.

I bought this the day it came out and have yet to play it... a lot of it has to do with the fact I played through them on the SNES and PSX about a week brfore getting the collection. If I had an X3 cart I would have passed, for some reason having all 8 games on the same platform (PS2) was attractive prospect to me.

Edit: Oh, and don't be to critical of yourself when you're playing X6, that game is pretty cruel in what it throws at you.

Whoa...More Growlanser? Yes, please. 2 and 3 were fantastic and unique RPG's.

I finally got into the Guitar Hero thing a couple weeks ago and the upcoming songlist for GH3 was a huge part of it. Rock Band looks tempting, but the songlist isn't good enough for me to consider going next-gen yet and GH3 will be PS2 as well as PS3/360 (this is the first I've heard of a Wii version), so I went for the GH2 combo pack in anticipation of 3. I needs me some Welcome to the Jungle/Number of the Beast/Quick Machines/School's Out/Rock You Like a Hurricane love.

(BTW, I was surprised to not see a thing here about Rock the 80's, which was just released...I'm looking to snag it once the price dips under $50, since it only has about half the songs of GH2)

Of course, much upcoming Wii stuff I'm interested in, but I'm holding out for Smash Brothers Brawl

Ryu Jul 29, 2007

Just so you know, Best Buy had Rock the 80's for $39.99 last week; if you bought it with GH2 with the guitar you would get a $15 gift card or something.  I don't know what the price point is now though.

Rock Band intends on doing full album releases, as opposed to the rather lame "pick and choose badly" that I've seen from the GH series.  So far, I believe an album from The Who and Nirvana are heading to Rock Band, but I'm not fully sure which and when.  The $200 price tag pretty much killed it for me until like next year during a lull.

Exactly why I figured it wasn't that high a priority...It'll take some time to get those kind of details together and their current song list (and Nirvana) doesn't interest me, so I figured the 4 GH PS2 games will be enough for awhile. The potential is sick though. Hopefully the 360 as a whole will become more attractive by the time they get "Appetite for Destruction" for Rock Band...Or they might even put it on the Wii, effectively lowering the number of consoles I have to buy.

Unlike, say, Steel Battalion, I can understand the price point, since you get the rather large drum machine, microphone, guitar and the game and you're set for everything they put out for it. What I'm most interested in seeing is the voice recognition aspect. And...I'd be hesitant to beat on a game peripheral with real drum sticks.

Thanks for the lead...Gamestop, it was $50.

Well, I've made it through X and X2 so far. It's not so bad if you get every item and keep your subtanks full. wink I just started X3 and am completely horrified by the music. Compared to this, X2's tunes are masterpieces...

Of that whole list, these are the only three that look interesting to me, and I won't be buying BioShock since I don't have a 360 and have no intention of purchasing one anytime soon.

If your referring to the remixed score for X3 I agree for the most part, I do like some of the remixes (Gravity Beetle and Toxic Seahorse) but I don't think they meld with the game very well compared to the SNES originals. As for X2's tunes, I think Yuki Iwai's score has really taken a hit from the years, outside a few key tracks like "Zero" and "Sigma 1st" it's pretty bland outside the nostalgia factor.

Don't worry too much, I just wanted to let you know that X6 can be pretty annoying (saving the "best" - j/k - in the collection for last.) Still, I think Akemi Kimura's score is the best element of the game (although the music for the Central Museum stage is really horrible.)

I am equally happy and weary toward GH3's release. Not only is another developer handling the game, but they are adding in boss battles with Mario Kart-esque powerups. I'm not too sure how I feel about that... I watched a video over at IGN with one of the battles against Slash, and I didn't like how the powerups basically mishmashed the fretboard while the dude was "battling". Either way, I am at least interested to see how it turns out, especially if they incorporate some exclusive Wii features!

Bioshock looks interesting, but I'm not going to purchase it. Too "next gen" for me. I'm sure that the innovations will be really cool, especially how the player has a lot of choices as to how they play the game, but it doesn't seem like my cup of tea. Actually, I really don't drink tea, so I guess it doesn't seem like my pint of beer. I find it interesting how there hasn't been an XBL demo yet. We saw AC6 hit a couple of weeks ago and that game isn't even due until later this year, yet Bioshock has its release date next month...

As far as other games go, I am excited for...

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. This goes without saying. Even though MP2 was a little bit of a step sideways after the first one, I loved it all the same. Quadraxis is one of my favorite MP boss fights, and I absolutely loved the creepy, desolate music throughout most of the game. Even if this game isn't as good as either MP or MP2, I am sure the design and flow of the game will be great. I'm weary of the Wii controls (it's hard not to be with an FPS-esque title), but I have faith in Retro Studios, and I have read that the controls have been shaping up really, really well.

Picross DS! This Wednesday, $20, buy it.

I would lump Phoenix Wright 3 in there, as well. It was due out in September and just got pushed back to October, but I am excited for it all the same, for obvious reasons. tongue

I was just going to post about stylus controls and my reservations about the title, but I'm just going to shut up and say, "Yeah dude, you're right. I can't resist."

Luckily for me, I'm not super interested in a lot of stuff that's coming out this fall/winter, so I have more time to focus on my personal priorities, like another run through Eternal Darkness, or my third playthrough of Viewtiful Joe, or another romp through Tomb Raider: Anniversary...

I had high hopes for Alien Syndrome, but the two reviews released thus far had dogged it pretty bad:

IGN: 5.5
http://wii.ign.com/articles/808/808113p1.html

Gamespot: 5.0
http://www.gamespot.com/wii/rpg/aliensy … eview.html

On a somewhat genre-related topic, has anyone played "Monster Madness" for the 360?  That was one I was really looking forward to as well. (Can anyone say no to a spiritual successor to Monsters Ate My Neighbors?)   But reviews have been mixed at best.

PSP System?  Big Screen?  What is this??  An adapter to play PSP games on PS3??

You've aroused my ire

Zorbfish Jul 30, 2007

Persona 3 in a couple more weeks, then Soul Nomad/Cradle in September.

Other than that not much of interest this year. I may take a break from games until Silent Hill 5 or Origins are released.

Oh? You're not happy about being able to play the PSP on your TV? Well, I think it's quite cool! I just don't play games on the road, and so it's nice to be able to play PSP games on an actual television with the new PSP video out smile Which is not an adapter by the way, it's going to be built in the new version of the PSP which should be released by the holidays.

Crash Jul 31, 2007

I already had a way to play PSP games on the big screen.  It's called a PS2.

[OK, so maybe not ALL the games on the PSP are ports of PS2 games, but it sure feels like it.]

I'm psyched about MP3... I replayed MP1 back and April and last night I've started a new game in Echoes on hard to gear up for Corruption.  I still don't have a DS... *hangs head in shame* but I'll def pick one up for Phantom Hourglass (New Super Mario Bros., Mario & Luigi 2, and Pheonix Wright too - since I see you guys love that one, along with a few other games [I'll start a recommendation thread when I finally pick up my DS so look out for that]).  As for Zack & Wiki, it looks like a lot of fun and I really hope it does well on the Wii.  I'll be grabbing a copy fo'sho.

OFF TOPIC
Does anyone else think it'd be a good idea for Capcom to port Okami to the Wii?

EDIT
Also, has anyone played Alien Syndrome?  As Angela said, it hasn't had very favorable reviews - yet I'm still curious about it.

Throughout the entire game, I felt myself thinking "Why am I not playing this on the only console that has the appropriate controls?"

Yeah, I hear what you guys are saying, but let me add the following (PSP exclusive games):

FF Tactics (upgrade)
Riviera
Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles
Silent Hill: Origins
Gradius Collection
Valkyrie Profile (yeah, also an upgrade, but the original will cost you a silly amount of money!)

so my notion is that once a system has 5 or more exclusive games you want, it's worth investing smile

Jay Aug 2, 2007

It has way more than that but I think, with the PSP, people see what they want to see.

Ryu Aug 2, 2007

Jay wrote:

I have two PSP games---Capcom Puzzle World (for SPF2T) and Powerstone Collection.  I tried the Burnouts and Ace Combat; the former just didn't work with regards to speed and the latter didn't work for me with regards to controls.  If you can help me find the 'way more' that I think, let me know.

I'm going to give Crazy Taxi Fare Wars a shot, since I have nothing better to rent until the end of the month.  I have little hope that it will work well.

I plan on buying Dracula X Chronicles, Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions, Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness, and God of War Chains of Olympus by the end of the year.

There is more to look forward to getting there, compared to the DS' three (one of which appears to be vaporware: Ultimate Brain Games), disappointing considering so many DS games coming out too, but I do have like seven DS games currently.

Jay Aug 2, 2007

Well I can't imagine I could list anything you don't actually know about already but, here are a few off the top of my head -

Lumines (1 or 2)
Wipeout Pure
Wipeout Pulse (coming in September)
Ratchet & Clank
Every Extend Extra
Daxter
The Ridge Racers (they may be just like 6 or 7 - I haven't played those so not sure)

Worth trying the Exit games too. And LocoRoco, which people have said is great but I just think it looks pretty and has little else to offer. Oh, there's Katamari too.

Of games you can play on other consoles so will be of interest if you want handheld versions -
Hot Shots Golf
Tekken 5 DR
Outrun 2006 C2C
The GTAs

Ryu Aug 2, 2007

Every Extend is coming to XBLA where I already got Lumines.  I don't much care for the rest either.  Oh well, thanks!  I'll give Exit and LocoRoco a try.

For the record, the video out is built in, but the cable you need is sold separately.  A new video finally revealed that both composite and component cables will be offered.  I did notice that Sony is still being a bit sketchy about exactly when this fall the PSP-2000 is coming out, but at least it's still on for this fall.

As for games justfying the PSP, I don't follow the "must have five games" rule, but for the record, I own the two Mega Man games and Loco Roco and will buy MGSPO once it goes GH.  Dracula X is the game I'm actually buying the system for and I'll pre-order it (the system) as soon as they start taking orders.
