Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade was one of the first people to predict this trend.

as much as i loved voltron as a kid (i practically had every damn toy they produced), i think a thundercats live action movie would have been a better choice.
Forget these circa 2000 rip-offs, assholes need to release boxsets of the original cartoon.

The up side of these newly-realized remakes is the eventual tie-in releases of the original source material. The question, then, is, are you willing to put up with circa 2000 to get you closer to 1980?
Word has it that Media Blasters is going to release the entire collection of the original show as a boxset, once the fifth and final volume is released next year.

I think a live action G.I. Joe would work very well.
Where's the love for Saber Rider and the goddamn Star Sheriffs?

Yeah, hopefully the original show becomes re-released.
It's kind of like these circa 2000 rip-offs are little more than advertisement for the original product; it's like they intend for them to be disappointments so people end up buying the original thing. They waste us out money seeing the movie, and then we buy the original stuff because we're so disappointed with the new rendition... XP
P.S. I've been looking for Voltron DVDs on Animenation and Amazon.com for awhile now, and nothing comes up, not a one.

Someone posted the same strip in relation to the same topic on RPGFan.com's boards...coincidence?! FIND OUT IN THIS SUMMER'S NEW BLOCKBUSTER: COINCIDENCE!!
EDIT: Evidence suggests that yes, it's a coincidence. One helluva big one.

TRSI (rightstuf.com) lists all four solicited boxes, though their 46% off Media Blasters sale ended yesterday. (The next one will be in about six months)
DVDPacific (dvdpacific.com) shows stock on the released boxes.

Ha. I did a fan art concept thing for Mumm-Ra a while back, just for fun.

I also did a few Silverhawks redesigns that never got finished. Maybe I should get on that so I can get a fat check when they finally green-light that for a movie. Fwa fwa fwa...

You have mad drawing skills there! That would make for an interesting live action version of Mumm-Ra that would be easily identifiable by a casual audience.

Thank you! I'll definitely work on polishing up some of my unfinished fan art soon.
