Oh man...this is pretty funny stuff...

He didn't like Top Gun for the Nintendo..(I personally loved it back in the day and did beat the game), anyway, check out his rant...

^ Eh, even so, I still have a soft spot for Simon's Quest.  Perhaps because it has the debut of my favorite Castlevania song, but I'll get it when it shows up on the VC.

raynebc Aug 17, 2007

That guy is classic.  My favorite is the console war video.

Super Nintendo: What, are you just gonna keep stacking sh*t on top?

Sega: ...Yeah!

Ramza Aug 17, 2007 (edited Aug 17, 2007)

Yeah I learned about this guy when my best friend sent the TMNT review to me thru myspace. I LOVE that video. When he spends the last two minutes trying to get that over that crazy jump, and then you figure out you can WALK over it...SHIT!

He spent two minutes on it. As a kid, I probably spent like six hours of my life on that jump.

For the record though ... I did LIKE that game. It's a shame he only showed the first three worlds among the six (will he showed one quick scene from world four).

I beat that game. ONCE. It was so incredibly hard, it blew my mind. I think I was nine years old. I never want to play it again.

Fav quote:
"It's not like Krang was like a minor character that came in the fifth season of the show: Krang was RIGHT THERE from the beginning! So like, there was no excuse, there was NO EXCUSE not to have him there!"

Come on, don't you people use gametrailers.com!?
He's been around there for AGES, known as the Videogame Nerd, he's done tons of stuff already.

Great laugh.

Ramza Aug 18, 2007 (edited Aug 18, 2007)

Well, he's the angry "videogame" nerd *now*. He was on youtube and his own website(s) before he joined the Gametrailers crew and branched out from NES to become "Videogame Nerd" instead of "Nintendo Nerd."

The Top Gun and TMNT videos are some of his earliest, and IMO, the best.

EDIT - Speaking of Gametrailers, though ... their currently-running Metroid and FF retrospectives are FANTASTIC. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job recapping these great games.

brandonk Aug 18, 2007 (edited Aug 18, 2007)

I'm trying to find his Atari 5200 review...Is that finished yet?  All I see is the trailer...That would be classic...I remember that piece of trash, with the controllers that broke the same day we set it up.  I really liked the games though...

(*update*) Never mind, found it...was hopeful he'd show some more games

Bernhardt Aug 18, 2007 (edited Aug 18, 2007)

Ahh, the original TMNT for NES was always one of my favorite games that I could only get up to the third level in. About ceiling close jumps...he's right on. What REALLY sucks is how there's no save/password/continue-where-you-left-off feature; they expect you to be able to finish it all in one sitting.

Ashley Winchester Aug 18, 2007

How did I know he'd land the plane with the power glove when he couldn't with the controller? Lol!

The guy is VERY self-aware.  Notice my gripe earlier in this thread about the 5200 review, he refers to it during his movie review of Spiderman 3.  You can't please everybody (his correlation of folks who disliked Spiderman 3), he didn't review that many games on the Atari 5200, just spends over 3 minutes trying to set it up.    (he really needs to do a pt 2, I mean how many did he do for Ghostbusters??)

Seriously funny stuff...and it hits home..man, instant nostalgia

BAMAToNE Aug 20, 2007

TMNT was my fav... until I watched Bible Games. That might have been the funniest 20 minutes of my life ever.

Xenogears Omni Aug 20, 2007

All time classic stuff, especially if you remember playing all of those games to begin with.

Bernhardt Aug 20, 2007

That guy reminds me of myself, honestly. I can't stop cursing...I'm regressing back to my angrier, younger days.

Amazingu Aug 21, 2007

Am I the only one who actually really liked McKids?

Ramza Aug 21, 2007

Well according to his review, he admits that McKids can actually have decent gameplay ... at times.

But I didn't play it all that much.

That was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.  His face was priceless!  The nostalgic factor just adds to the hilarity, although I can't really share this with some of my family because of the cursing.

Shoebonics Sep 1, 2007 (edited Sep 1, 2007)

I think he was a bit harsh on Double Dragon 3, it was just a challenging game that was gonna take some time and practice to get through, instead of just beating it in one or two sittings and then shelvin'. And if you had a Game Genius the game became a cakewalk of course.
DD3 had awesome musics too, my favorite was the Chinese song of course.
I still play Double Dragon 3 from time to time.
The first NES DD is the one he should've been bitchin' about, the last boss was cheating by having a machinegun, and there was some censorship from the arcade version as well as no 2 Player support.

And as fer Top Gun, i was really hoping he was gonna make a comment-joke on how the big metal refueling prong in Mission 2 looks like a giant iron & steel penis with wings on the sides, and how cheesy and semi-pornographic the music that plays during this sequence of inserting the metal phallus into your plane's G-Spot (although Nintendo made Konami change it to an 'X' instead of 'G' for the US version)

I thought he was harsh on TMNT but I didn't take it to heart, he's right on most counts. Still, it doesn't change the fact *some* of those games are classics and will always be a part of my (and others) childhoods and gaming "careers."

Ryu Sep 1, 2007

Well, looking at a faq of his he did say that his hyperbole was for humor and was meant for entertainment purpose.

GoldfishX Sep 1, 2007

Really enjoyed watching his videos. I don't mind the repetitiveness, but I love the ones with the "cameos" the most (Jason, Bugs Bunny, Spider-Man, Freddy) and him landing the plane with the Power Glove was one of funniest things I've seen in ages (I remember a friend of mine renting Top Gun and neither of us could figure it out). The only one I didn't like was the TMNT one...I thought he was just playing really lousy in that one. Also: I didn't really see what the issue was with Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout...That's actually one of my favorite NES games. BB's Crazy Castle would have been much better material.

Gotta love the theme song!

Same here, the ones with the cameos are the ones I watch most. I also like his renactment of the Sega/Nintendo war as well:

Jaguar: "you thought you saw the last of Atari you puny fools, I'm the Atari Jaguar and I'm 64 bit!"
SNES: "you ain't 64 bit get the f**k out of here!"

GoldfishX Sep 1, 2007

I like how he has a Jaguar, Atari 5200, Sega CD, multiple 32X's (or did...I wonder if he destroyed both of the ones he had or just the one in the video) but no Saturn. Come on, it's not THAT bad!

Yeah, that strikes me as odd as well having all those systems and NOT having a Saturn but it is funny as far as how that comes into play in the video. Still, any system that has Panzer Dragoon II Zwei on it isn't that bad. It's a shame a lot of companies turned their back on unlocking the Saturn's full potential.

Bumping an old thread, but in the spirit of Christmas...You HAVE to watch the second part of An Angry Nerd Christmas Carol (first part is actually kinda lame). I swear, I haven't laughed this hard at anything in my entire life...The last 4-5 minutes or so just hurt. It's MUCH better than the Captain S special from last year.

Halloween special (added since last time this thread was used) and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre spoof are also really good.

Jodo Kast Dec 27, 2007

I enjoyed his rants about Castlevania II on the NES. Back in the day, when I was in 7th grade, none of those things seemed strange. At the time, we were concerned with what must be done to progress in the game. If you have to kneel in front of a wall with a piece of Dracula, then that's what you have to do. It only seems strange now, years later.

That came across a lot deeper than you intended, I'm sure. What a nice little mantra to live by. smile

Yeah, sounds like a religious ceremony.

All you need do is watch the opening fmv of Castlevania Chronicles for ps1 (JPN [i]or[i/] USA version) to see how to properly perform the ritual in yer own back-yard!

And ta' think i got that disc for amir $20 thanks to the heads-up in that '01 EGM..
