Since my contract with Verizon recently afforded me a new cell phone, I decided to ditch the "choose a basic phone for basic phone usage's sake" mentality this time, and upped my old LG-5400 to one of the newfangled Smartphones.  I'm on my new Motorola Q as I write this, and I'm loving it to pieces.  It's good enough as a phone, and I doubt I'll be using the multimedia features like movie watching and music listening very often, but it's unbelievably rad to have broadband net access on-the-go in such a pocket-sized device.  It's a tad pricey at $65 a month (and this is on the best value family plan), but it includes unlimited data usage, and the EV-DO network has been pretty fast.

Yeah, I can definitely see myself skirting around "crackberry" territory soon.  *_*

LG VX8500 (Chocolate).

I hate it.  I'm never getting a slide phone again.

I have an LG VX8100. One step below the Chocolate, basically. It works for me. Mostly. wink

Sony Ericsson W810i. I see little reason to recommend it to anyone. Not that great at all. sad

Fujitsu F904i.
Has One Seg, which is absolutely wonderful for the commute to work.

I have a Panasonic VS6, and I like it quite a bit.  MP3 ringtones, 2 MP camera, 2 million colors on the display, has Sonic the Hedgehog pre-installed, and has a clamshell form factor.  I have a Sony Ericsson Z600 as a backup, which I also liked a lot.

Since cell phones are primarily associated with certain carriers in the US, a lot of people don't know what other phones are out there other than what their carrier has special deals on.  Canadians have much better phone selections than Americans do.  If you're on a GSM network (T-mobile, Cingular, AT&T), I'd recommend checking out this site, if only to see what variety is out there:

The Q is a very nice phone, very similar to my T-Mobile Dash. Not all T-Mobile's customers are as lucky as I am, apparently, but I can pick up any available WiFi and hop on for free internet access without paying for any extra services.

I'd recommend downloading Opera Mini for your Q. It's free, and so much better than PIE.

I use a LG VX 3400, which is pretty much one of the most basic phones you can get. It works fine for what I use it for and since my sister is on the same network I can use free mobile to mobile to call her which is awesome compared to calling her on my home phone and racking up that bill.

I think I get 400-450 anytime minutes each month and I only end up using around 50 of them.

Yeah, that's my favorite part of Verizon. I have free minutes to the majority of my family (who all use Verizon and would be long distance on a landline).

Motorola RAZR. Small, compact, and convenient, and there are good belt holsters available for it. (You'd be surprised how many portable electronics only have terrible holsters available for them). Too bad Cingular/AT&T's service likes to crap out every so often, otherwise it'd be ideal, and I'd have no complaints.

NOW, if they could just but the belt clip on the back of the device itself, there'd be no need to shell out another fuckign $30 for a separate holster piece.

I  have what Virgin Mobile calls the "Snapper."  It's a UT Starcom clamshell model with color screen and basic camera.  Doesn't do a whole lot, but I only pay $7/month, so what do I care?

*hugs her Treo 650 til it squeaks*

It's my lifeblood.
I can type like lightning on it, so it's my all in one solution for texting anyone, anytime, heh.
I've had it for two years, and I'd never want anything else.
That, and the entire catalog of Palm software from pretty much ever is compatible with it.  No comparison.

I doubt you can get the 650 anymore, but no big deal, here's the 680:

I have a Sanyo MM-8300. It freezes up when I write text messages sometimes, and the camera is just okay, but the phone itself is great. That's what I like in my cell phone - a PHONE that works. tongue

i've thought about getting a cutout of a cell phone,, just to drive downtown and pass a cop who would then proceed to pull me over to issue me a ticket for driving while talking on my... cardboard...
