I was at EB today and was talking with the cashier and I brought up how SE needs to bring FFVII out in some form to weaken the game's market value since I think the going price for a used copy today is totaly insane. I just don't feel it's worth as much as they go for - I just don't covet the game even though I have a copy.

He said the game is in a sense banned because Avalanche's actions in blowing up Mako reactors is well, terrorism, and in this post 9/11 world such content/a storyline would be frowned upon.

Now, I don't believe everything I hear, especially from EB workers (some of them have their heads up their ass) but I can't help but think I read this somewhere else beforehand as well.

Still, what if they make a remake at some point? Would they water down the beginning because of this? I mean if the new "thing" in hollywood is to make movies about terrorism why can't they leave it alone in games? What would be next, removing Odessa from a Wild Arms 2 remake (if only such a thing saw daylight) because they obtain their goals through such means?

Anyway, I'm not promoting terrorism but can't we leave it be if it was there in the "before time?"

Sounds to me like the guy at the counter was a quack.

I too was told crap by an EB employee today. I was trying to find Persona 3 for PS2 because amazon.ca (or most likely Canada Post) lost my copy and amazon.ca is out of stock. I had no luck at Wal-Mart, Zellers and Future Shop, so I tried EB. The clerk told me that I should have pre-ordered the game because they couldn't put it on the shelves because there was no french instruction manual included. Yes I live in the Quebec province, and I've read some comments about french manuals on gamefaqs before, but it's a total lie. Basically companies are strongly advised to include a french manual with their games, but if they don't, there's no police or anyone to enforce the law... and it's not really a law, more like a rule... In any case, his story didn't make any sense; it's just another case of EB employees trying to spread the word that you need to pre-order if you want your games. I swear I rarely go to EB, basically when I have no other choice, but I always leave empty ended because of some shyt. But that's ok, I found Persona 3 and the strategy guide at Microplay. Oh and I got Brave Story for PSP as well, and the tick hardcover book written by Miyuki Miyabe.

Has this gone into effect yet?

"Cloud, the planet's dying so we're...um, planting flowers in the mako reactors to make things better. The guards hate flowers, so they'll attack us at every turn."
"Whatever...I just want to get paid and go home."

Problem solved, everyone goes home happy, censors included. No terrorism to be seen...And the explosions afterwards? Just fireworks to celebrate the successful planting. Nothing fishy here.

I guess PS1 games in general aren't as easy to come by as they used to be. I figured there'd be plenty of FFVII's to go around, at least.

Well, I think there are still plenty of copies of it out there, Advent Children seemed to be a cataylist for renewed interest. People probably sold their copies of FF7 years before the movie came out and when they watched it they're like "I want to play the game again"

When I was working at a local used game store, we had trouble keeping copies of FFVII in stock, even when the owner of the store jacked up the price to $60 (for a Greatest Hits copy - the original was even more).  Crazy.

As for that EB employee, I swear to god, it must be in the job description that they're required to make up ridiculous stories.  Oh, and did you know that you can totally get the Triforce in Ocarina of Time, too?!

Down here in Canukistan, FFVII used went recently for $140. Granted, it was in absolute mint condition (not sealed, though) . . .

I won't even tell you how much a sealed Suikoden II sold for . . .
