Angela Feb 28, 2006

First, the must-haves - Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence Limited Edition, and, barring any unforseen incident, my import Crystal White DS Lite, which should be arriving by week's end. (I am so glad I chose the white color, by the way, in light of the color production problems Nintendo's apparently having with the two blues.)

Of the four prominent RPGs coming out -- Shadow Hearts: From The New World, Kingdom Hearts II, Tales of Phantasia (GBA), and Suikoden V -- I think Tales would be the one I would choose, if just for the nostalgia value.  Like Grandia 3, I'll save the rest for when there's a really serious lull.

ANGELA TRIVIA FACT #364: I've never played an Onimusha title in my life; which leads me to wonder if I should pick up Dawn of Dreams or not.  What do you think?  Should I start with the older games before working my way up to the newest one?

Tetris DS and Beatmania appear to be of the pick-up-and-play caliber that I love so much, but I just snagged Super Princess Peach and Sonic Rush, which should keep me busy for quite a while.

DVDs?  The Goblet of Fire for sure, although King Kong..... not so sure.  After all, with word that Jackson's working on a Special Extended Edition, much like The Lord of The Rings films, I think I can afford to wait.

From America:
Shadow Hearts: From the New World
Kingdom Hearts II
Metal Gear Solid 3: Why Do I Ever Buy The First Version of These Games

As for stuff to pick up off the shelf in Japan, I'm probably going to get the Navy blue DS, but part of me is tempted to wait until some cool limited color is announced for some game or something.  On the other hand, I don't really like the idea of having limited edition portable systems as then I'd be afraid to take them anywhere for fear of getting even the slightest scratch on them.  Dilemma!

Wanderer Feb 28, 2006

I'm going to buy Shadow Hearts: From The New World and Kingdom Hearts II at release. Suikoden V I'll wait for until it goes down in price a bit.

Idolores Feb 28, 2006

Kingdom Hearts II is a definite must for me, as I loved the first one to bits. Subsistence is also a big thing for me. I'll be picking that one up. Suikoden V? Definitely, but I refuse to touch it (or III, or IV) until I find and beat Suikoden II.

Wanderer Feb 28, 2006

until I find and beat Suikoden II.

Good luck, man...

Crash Feb 28, 2006

My most recent order from Play-Asia:

Ibara Original Sound Track [Limited Edition w/ Figure]
GuitarFreaks V & DrumMania V [Konamistyle Special Edition]
Pop'n Music 12 [Konamistyle Special Edition]
DJ Max Portable [Prestige Box Set Collector's Edition]
Drummania Controller
Guitar Freaks Controller
Sanwa Supply Classic USB Gamepad (white)

Plus, US Beatmania on the PS2 and Generation of Chaos on the PSP.  Thankfully, I don't have a PSP yet, or else I'd never get any studying done.

Ryu Feb 28, 2006

I kinda want one of the remodeled DS', but I kinda only want it because the screen is supposed to be better.  I'd like to see it before I buy it, so I'm waiting for the US launch in May.  Plus, I'm not so sure what color to get.

Not much coming out game-wise for me to get this month... Tetris DS and The Tower SP GBA.  I really don't get why Vivarium didn't redo The Tower for the DS.  I can imagine it would work well for the system.

As for DVDs, Batman Beyond Season 1 and Justice League Season 1.

King Kong was one of my favorite films of last year, but honestly it was too long and bloated in the theatrical release.  Can't think of any reason why I would want even more excess in there.  If anything I'd like to see a director's *cut* - literally - that takes out some of the scenes that drag down the movie in the first place (most of the dialogue between the first mate and Jimmy, the way overdone stampede sequence, etc).

Will definitely be buying that DVD sooner or later though.

Zane Feb 28, 2006

US Beatmania (PS2) and Megaman Powered Up for the PSP.

Game music wise... probably nothing. Maybe BKII, even though I didn't care too much for the first. Shipment of iFuturelist, Nanosweep, 69-2, Ibara and some other stuff will hit in March, though. Good enough for me.

I do concede, to a point.  Personally, I thought the theatrical version's three hour time was just about perfect in pace and length -- and as we've learned from The Return of The King Extended Edition, sometimes longer isn't always better.

That said, I'm sure there are things that would be worth seeing in an extended version of King Kong.  The Denham character, for instance, I thought could've used something more of a moral resolution to flesh his story out.

Wanderer Mar 2, 2006

My problems with "King Kong" largely extended to the first hour, which was a poor excuse at character development and bad pacing. Why did Jackson bother trying to develop the members of the crew when we know most of them are going to die anyway? The first mate/Jimmy stuff was particularly inept and uninvolving.

I haven't actually seen the extended RotK yet and I've only seen the theatrical once. I love the movie but I guess I'm just waiting for a perfect time to watch four hours of RotK goodness. wink

I haven't decided which March releases I'm getting yet, but the ones I'm already committed to are:

- Tales of Phantasia (GBA)
- Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth (preordered from himeyashop.com, should arrive soon ... if I don't get the preorder bonus artbook I'm going to be royally pissed.)
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Kingdom Hearts II Limited Edition BradyGames Strategy Guide (I don't even know what the bonus material is, but I don't care.  I collect these things. :o)

Let's not forget the completely ridiculous ice dancing scene.

I LIKED that scene! Great music too.

Abrahm Mar 2, 2006

-For game music, I'll likely get the Baten Kaitos II OST, and maybe the Sonic Riders OST
-I have to get the new Prince release, 3121
-And, of course, I'll get the Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVD set.

Oh yeah, I need to get that also.  Sakuraaaaaaaaaaba. :D

shdwrlm3 Mar 3, 2006

Games:
Dynasty Warriors 5 Empires (PS2) - Yes, I'm one of those people whom Koei have an unholy grip on.
Kingdom Hearts II (PS2) - Possible, but I think I'll probably just wait until KHII becomes a Greatest Hits title.

ANGELA TRIVIA FACT #364: I've never played an Onimusha title in my life; which leads me to wonder if I should pick up Dawn of Dreams or not.  What do you think?  Should I start with the older games before working my way up to the newest one?

I'm in the same boat as you. I just played the demo of DoD on the latest OPM demo disc and fell in love with it. The previous games are pretty cheap (as am I wink ), so I think I'll seek those out first.

On a related note, I'm also interested in getting into the Devil May Cry series (which, for some reason, I've often confused for the Onimusha games and vice versa). DMC 3:SE is widely available, but would I need to play the first 2 games to understand anything in it?

DVDs:
Chronicles of Narnia - Not much a of a movie-goer anymore, so I skipped this when it was in theaters. However, I'm a big Narnia fan, and the movie got some good reviews, so I'll be getting the DVD despite the rumors of an upcoming extended edition.

As for DVDs, Batman Beyond Season 1 and Justice League Season 1.

-And, of course, I'll get the Super Mario Bros. Super Show DVD set.

Oh crap, nostalgia will most definitely make me pick those sets up. Do the Mario!

Music:
A little over $200 worth of Japanese/European dance music. Why must March always be a big month for music releases in Japan?

Well, I wouldn't say the story threads are as vital to understand than, say, the Metal Gear Solid series -- but seeing as how DMC3 plays out as a prequel to DMC1, it is a neat thing to watch older Dante's psyche and attitude from DMC1 "evolve" into his younger self and hit overload in DMC3.  *_*

Personally, I would pick up DMC1, because 1) It's gotta be dirt-cheap by now.  Even cheaper than dirt.  And 2) As a game, it still holds up really well, even by today's standards.  I've never played DMC2 myself, but aside from being an apparently poorly-developed game, the story itself is said to be largely throwaway and has little to nothing to do with the original anyway.

Why must thou be so hardcore? ;)  Other than Trance Paradise 4, Speed Drive and EX9, what else comes out this month?

Sounds good. I still have a big backlog of games to play through, but I'll probably stop by EBGames soon and pick up DMC1 and Onimusha 1. I'll let you know how Onimusha 1 is.

Too long to get into here, but let's just say I forced CD Japan to ship quite possibly the most princessy shipment EVER.

Tetris DS
Final Fantasy Tactics OST (reprint)

Might get Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams.  Onimusha 3 was a pretty good game.

Angela, from what I know, Dawn of Dreams is seperate from the original trilogy. I never had a big interest in the old ones (not sure why not) but DoD cools way cool. I'll probably get it sometime in the near future.

Onimusha takes places about 15 years after the last game.  The basic gameplay mechanics are similar to Onimusha 3.
