I think a suitable "reward" for that situation would be having his father around while he grows up, not shitty games in 1080p.

Sony donated one: http://www.kgw.com/news-local/stories/k … 36aa6.html

how do you figure Metal Gear 4 and resident evil 5 to be shitty games?
ok WTF
Reward for his bravery!? Christ, I can't stand how selfish these generations of kids are getting. You shouldn't expect a reward for doing the right thing.
What's even sadder is all these "gamers" agreeing that he should be rewarded.
Yeah, selfish little bastard jumped at the chance to save his father's life... "Maybe I'll get that PS3 now!" [/sarcasm]
I thought it was kind of enduring, actually.[/sarcasm again]
Hey, try reading the article instead of just the spin put on the headline.
Quote from the article:
"Matty said his real reward is that his father recovered after the seizure."
It's not a matter of a reward; the kid probably went through a traumatic experience too, seeing his dad having a seizure and realizing that if he didn't do anything they were probably both dead. Maybe a free PS3 from Sony (publicity stunt though it may be) will be a nice thing for the family. Furthermore, when community members originally suggested donating one to the family, the father declined out of humility. The son and the father both seem like decent people. so...
Quit being asses.

That wasn't in the original article I posted. Even so, the kid's a little fuckwad for even thinking about getting a reward for doing what he did.
I don't know the situation personally of course, but my guess is the kid doesn't have much in terms of material pleasures like we do (ie his father doesn't make much and he probably doesn't have that much in terms of games, etc), also I doubt he thought about getting a reward when his father collapsed. I'm guessing he was terrified! Well, after everything turned out OK and people started calling him a hero and asked if he wanted a reward, of course he would say yes! He's just a little kid, so I personally think there's nothing wrong with shedding a little joy in his life via a brand new PS3
cheers,

Avatar's exactly right. The idea of a reward was probably put into his head by the people who called him a hero. The kid's not a fuckwad.

Well, they don't exist on the market yet.
I like judging a person's character based on vague news reports too!

True, but they're both sequels to very respected franchises with excellent track records by two of the biggest third parties in Japan, so it's pretty safe to say these games will make owning a ps3 worthwhile (too bad for me that i bought one only two weeks before the $100 price drop.. dammit!)
I thought Zane's comment about games would've been referring to Lair, which apparently IS a bad game. Also, I think people are blowing this thing WAAAY out of proportion. It seems like just kind of a joke-ish off-hand comment the dad made in an interview.

Heh, perhaps, although I hate the Metal Gear series, but that doesn't challenge your point. Plus isn't it due sometime early next year? Too bad RE5 isn't due until 2009! And who knows when FFXIII will be out, and if it'll even be worth the wait.
I'll be the villain for saying it... but I'm betting Sony paid the dad to fake the seizure. *ducks*
I'm kidding, of course.
