Batallion Wars II? (thanks, Google)

Red HamsterX Nov 7, 2007

I'm hoping to finally remove the shrinkwrap sometime this weekend. Unless I open Fire Emblem, that is.

Ephidel Nov 8, 2007

ARRGGHH!! Battalion Wars 2 AND Fire Emblem : Radiant Dawn. Neither of those games even have a release date in Europe. FE hasn't even been confirmed for release and by the time BWii is released here you US gamers will have moved on to something else so no online ass-whuppings from me are ever going to be dealt out to you. DAMN!!! *%£@"$...

I'm not American, but I should be available on call whenever you get the chance.

Ephidel Nov 8, 2007

Thank the heavens. Although I have to warn EVERYONE I play against that I've been playing games since I was 3 (or younger) waayy back in 1989 and it is my life. All my friends HATE it when they team up against me and still lose (SSBM great fun). I love tactical games but will never betray Nintendo by sleeping with another console.

How could you resist opening it unless you're gonna return it? When I was a kid I used to rip open the packaging the moment we returned to the car. I guess I still do it today but I have more restraint and, well, the games just aren't as exciting as they used to be...

Kenology Nov 8, 2007

Whoever wants to exchange friends codes lemme know.  I still haven't officially begun playing the game besides one online battle (which was very entertaining).  So realistically, I probably won't sit down and play this game proper until I'm done with Mario Galaxy (i.e. late Nov., early Dec.)

Ephidel Nov 8, 2007

I'll probably have finished it by the end of November myself. On average every game takes me 3 days to beat first time through. It took 7 days for MP3 : Corruption including hypermode. Oh and I'm posting a lot now because the war over control of the internet has tipped in my favour 'till Monday (Why wasn't I an only child?). Kenology you'll have to contact me about friend codes as I don't know how it works.

Ephidel Feb 22, 2008

Well, BWii got released in the EU on the 15th and I've S Ranked the Campaign mode and am playing online almost 24/7 attempting to get a 5 star rank! It's not easy and it seems it's worldwide so some people with over 500 wins are really starting to annoy me.

Oh, and I'm the best MoHer in Europe, I'm actually unbeatable at the online and I'm getting quite a reputation now. Shame about Brawl though, we get crappy MKWii on the 11th April when we would rather just have Brawl!

And no Brawl spoilers please, finding out about Luigi caused a riot tongue !

Kenology Feb 23, 2008

Wha's your friend code?  Mine is 429-612-278-949

I don't have the patience to get all the S rankings.  I did on the first campaign, but between my studies and all the other games coming out...

Also, for the rest of you Wii owners here, I really do recommend this game.  It's sure to be about $20-$30 by now and it really is a quality game.  Check it out.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA a console game published by Nintendo going down in price within like... five years of its release?  That's a good one!

Ephidel Feb 23, 2008

My friend code is : 378 084 569 889.

And I'm still not online 24/7 so you can't message me via Wii, Kenology.

I'm on my way to my 4th star but something incredible happened recently. Out of the blue came an announcement which announced the EU release date of Fire Emblem : Radiant Dawn! This is the only game that could keep me occupied until Brawl and it's set for a 14th March release date. On a side note, all EU release dates are on Fridays, it is incredibly rare for some game to be released on any other day!

So one question remains, are you getting MKWii? I think the new Mario Kart sucks, and there seems to be a lynch mob heading over to NoE to convince some people why Brawl is so much better.

The chances are I'm not buying it, Brawl is only neglected because of the sales of DD in the EU leading the marketing morons to conclude that the EU consumer would be better served by having Mario Kart first and being made to wait for Brawl. Aren't they so clever roll ?

I think most people gave up on Mario Kart as a franchise after Mario Kart 64 (average/decent) then Double Dash (WHHYYYYYY?!), but the real thing sparking up anger is the fact that NoE are using it as an excuse, (a delay, so to speak) to add some kind of perverted credibility to the stupidly late Brawl! The thing is, NoE haven't announced an EU release date for Brawl, so it isn't technically being delayed. Though in recent times NoE personnel have managed to deny there is a Kirby game in production for the Wii (causing them mass humiliation), more or less cancel WarioWare Twisted for the GBA (LGA approval supposedly, smells like BS imo), and generally deny everything and look completely gormless! Well done NoE, you're the biggest streak of crap in Nintendo, and you deserve to be burned to the ground.

Not that anyone's pissed off or anything hmm !

I would say EPIC RESURRECTION but it's not that old!

Anyway, I found this game to be excellent. Nice action/strategy game with pleasant graphics and not difficult (in the slightest). My gripes would be that you can't use every nation in Single player (no Xylvanians), not every unit is seen in every army, you can't choose to make the units you want, the story mode is short and easy though still highly enjoyable. There's also a whiff of Corruption's "nannying" going on, with having no time to roam or explore (X-Day was a great one for this on the original).

The controls have lost a few functions as well. You can no longer tell your troops exactly where to wait, jumping and barrel rolling are too easily messed up (I never bother with jumping anymore) and your troops are even stupider than before. They just won't capture a flag if there's even one enemy around (slight exaggeration, but not far off!).

The good points are basically everything else, the graphics, the online, the other controls. It plays extremely well, though too many people DC all the time! It's either that or laggers who don't seem to take damage until 5 - 10 seconds AFTER they were hit!

I've got 4 stars online, and I doubt I'll be waiting too long before I get my 5th wink ! Assault is better for me and my tactics rarely fail! Aces High is the only real tough one, and that's only the HQ bit! As for Skirmish, I've yet to play Battle Stations, so maybe I should get round to it at least once (>_<)

Any other strategies/opinions?

I recently got to the last mission in the first Battalion Wars, and I find the game so flawed that I can't imagine playing the second.  I own it, but I haven't opened it---I'm thinking of just returning it to Wal-Mart or somewhere for store credit.  I'm surprised you guys like it so much...

LOL!  Judge BWii by BWii, not BW1!  Give it a try, you may like it.  Don't knock it because the first one's flawed before you even open it.

Heh, it doesn't sound fair, true, but the reviews seem to give the impression that the game carries the first one's control flaws (and Ephidel points out a control aspect even removed), and we're talking $50 here.  Maybe you guys can give me a few pointers I didn't pick up along the way---other than having to actually LOOK at what you want certain troops to go after, is there another way to command your army?  And why are missile vets useless for me?  They seem to stand there and ignore a bomber taking out my tanks.

Maybe I slayed the game with my own words (>_<) but I was just highlighting the issues I had. The rest of the game is amazing, and the online is not only challenging, but also great fun if you have a proper war with someone!

There is also a new control option (Wait) and it's the equivalent of that directed command off the original, except you can't be DIRECT you have to just pick a unit and tell them to wait. They'll fall out of follow mode and stand still only attacking after being attacked (which is usually too late)!

The defend mode is amazing, your troops will not only use cover and aggressively pursue threats, they also will re-raise flags on the location they are defending without being ordered to do so, meaning all you have to worry about is eliminating the enemies.

Some people said the strategy was "lite", yet as much as the campaign is easy, getting all S ranks requires some very quick-witted and strategically demanding actions!

$50!?! How about £40, eh? Life isn't cheap over here yet I'd say it's worth it as it improves on the original in many ways!

I just like to go "Rambo" (Titans of Tundra) and wipe out the enemy single-handedly, just for fun. This game is basically attack/counter-attack all the way. You aren't given that freedom, but this is a war game and tbh it delivers more on what it's supposed to. I just miss destroying Heavy Tanks with Missile Vets wink Mad Skillz!

Talking about those Missile Vets, if they didn't shoot down the bomber they must've been in follow mode and not been given orders. If though, that's not the case, then I think it's safe to say the AI has improved for BWii! Capturing flags online is stressful though, as your troops would rather shoot your enemies than be self-sacrificing and raise the flag (I'm never playing Aces High again mad )!

The whole command system has been simplified and improved yet, lacks some features that would've been useful (Retreat for example)! You basically play this as an action game with help. You do have to actually be able to see your enemies to fight them, but that doesn't mean it ruins the strategy or makes the game a chore. Quite the reverse is true actually, whereby you'll see a lot more action that requires some decent strategy.

Don't be so judgemental, it's worth it though A-Qira is REALLY annoying, so you'll probably want him dead after hearing his voice big_smile !

It is good, and you could sell it whether you've opened it or not. You might get $10 less (maximum) if you play it first. Surely it's worth those $10, JUST. THIS. ONCE wink .

Ryu Mar 8, 2008

Hm, then I'll hold onto it.  And I'll keep the first one too, just in case.  I won't start it soon---I just started Bully on 360, and Fire Emblem on GCN the other day... and I'm getting a certain other game in less than 3 hours, but let's not talk about it.

Yes, let's not do that neutral .
