Eraserhead was such a pleasant surprise. This movie did not remind me of anything; it is truly one of a kind. It is an original work. I loved the little squirmy thing he found in his mailbox. And when it started making little squeaky noises, I felt very happy for it. I felt sorry for the chicken human fish mutant baby - I really wanted to see it grow up.

If you want to experience this amazing piece of art, here it is:

David Lynch is like that. Now that you've experienced the gateway drug, are you feeling up for some more? Not that you'd be getting more of the same per se, most of his stuff is pretty unique, and brilliant in different ways.

Blue Velvet and Wild At Heart are pretty conventional as far as Lynch goes, but still slightly surreal and dark/mysterious. Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me are a little further down the road, and atmospheric like hell (the original TP series is probably the best thing I've ever seen on a screen: if you haven't seen that one already, drop everything else and go for the Gold Box, now). Then there's a descending spiral of madness and obscurity in Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, and Inland Empire. The last one in particular will make the dream sequences in Eraserhead seem like Rambo III in straightforwardness.

Oh, and do get the soundtrack... The aural tapestry in Eraserhead is as dense and multi-layered as the original Silent Hill OST, if not more so, so it's really a goldmine if you like that sort of thing.
