I'm in spring... err, winter cleaning mode and am considering taking prior advice and eliminating the Retailers Discussion Forum.  Posts that are for expired sales will be deleted, remaining posts will be moved to the Marketplace Forum, and the "Recommended Online VGM Shops" thread may be made a sticky there.  Any objections?

I don't see the harm in merging one underused section with one of a similar theme, just so long as "Recommended Online VGM Shops" is preserved--I refer to that thread frequently.

I don't have any real qualms either way.  I don't think it would hurt anything to keep it, but I don't particularly care if you kill it either.  What WOULD be great, however, is if you could kill the annoying double login glitch. :-)

I think it's a fine thing to do, I would also love to turn the Retailers forum into a REVIEW forum where people could post soundtrack/film/game reviews. Granted, there are plenty of other sites that specialize in reviews, and granted people also post their own impressions in the other forums around here, but it would be great to have a forum specifically dedicated to reviews from people on this site! What's the harm?? Only good will come of this...

cheers,

I think every time this is brought up, a number of us say get rid of it. So...Go ahead and get rid of it. No one uses it and it's getting downright unhip to even click on it by mistake.

And like I've said 3 (or 4?) times...please bring back the polls forum from the "classic" STC, which saw regular and frequent use and would only be better off now because we have the ability to bump threads.

Just a heads-up that the "Anime & Film" forum has now been changed to "Other Music Discussion."  I had just made an inquiry post to Adam about the topic guidelines of the new forum name change, so hopefully we'll hear a reply soon. :)

I miss the "POLLS" forum.

We should have a poll to see who wants the poll forum back. Now, where would we post that...

Adam Corn Dec 30, 2007

I'm all for polls but want them to be done right, i.e. with system that tallies responses the way polls do.  I have almost worked out how I want to go about that but there are some other areas of the site that are taking priority right now.  Barring drastically life-altering circumstances it will all come to light in the next few weeks.

That said, is it really not enough to just have polls designated with a certain icon or text and post them in the existing forums?  I've always thought that's a better system than having a dedicated polls forum.

I was just making a joke with my above post. I really don't think we need any more sub-forums because any topic that could be posted is covered in the five subs that are already here. I think it would be cool to have the ability to post polls in any of the forums that they would belong in and have a tally or something so that you can see the results and also read the discussion if you choose, though.

On a bit of a side note - looking back at the old poll forum, and the structure of the ol' tree-style forums in general, I think that polls are more effective in that structure. So if you check this release thread that Angela posted...

... you can see everyone's replies right off the bat that are directly to her (without going through "quote=" text), and can differentiate between a reply to the question and a reply to a reply, etc. Although, with the PBB forums now, you do have to read just about every post to get to the meat of the topic - but that's a good thing. Isn't that what forums are all about? wink

Angela Dec 30, 2007

Never really minded the absence of the "Polls" forum, either; I don't see why any sort of poll couldn't just be created within the existing forums already.  The tally system might be a good idea for statistical reasons, but really.... given that this is a relatively small community as is, would it really make much of a significant difference to have such a feature?
