This year I watched A Charlie Brown Christmas, which I love. I also watched what may be my favourite Christmas movie - Elf. Elf, for me, is just genius. It's laugh out loud funny but also embraces the magic of Christmas as completely normal (a huge amount of Christmas movies seem to center around not believing and then being proved wrong). I also watched a Muppet's Christmas Carol which I think is great but I'm well done with Scrooge. There are just too many versions.

Oh, also watched the shorter Disney version with Mickey and Donald too.

So what are your favourite specials or movies?

Christmas Story.

The one with the leg lamp, and the amazing narrator who uses hyperbole in every sentence.

THAT is the best Christas movie ever.

Is that the one with the little blonde kid with the glasses?

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is my favorite. It's funny all year round.

Electric sex, you mean.  ;p

I haven't discovered "A Christmas Story" till very recently, like three years ago, even though it's been around forever.  But after picking it up on DVD, I make it a point to watch it every year now.  So many great moments; Flick's tongue-on-pole plight, the ever-growing inpatient department store Santa, those "sons of bitches" Bumpuses dogs, the pummeling of Scut Farkus.... And, of course, "Ohhhhhhh fuuuuuuuuudge," followed by the inevitable 'soap poisoning.'

Damn, what a great film. ^_^

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and a Christmas Story; however, TBS really ruins A Christmas Story because they play it for 24 hours - that is enough for the whole year and buying it on DVD almost seems laughable because of it. I seriously cringe when I see it for sale on DVD even though it is a great movie.

I love a Christmas Story.  For me it has the added benefit of taking place in the town next to mine (Hammond, IN, although they change it to Hohman, IN in the film after the main street that runs through the town).  I imagine that the way things are in that story aren't too far from the actual experience my parents had growing up.  The film's narrator is also the author of the books, Jean Shepherd, was also a local guy.  I was lucky enough to see him in person before he died.

Also, though it barely counts as a Christmas movie, I always think of Gremlins and how it has the best use of "Do you hear what I hear?" ever.

I have to second Christmas Story. One of the greatest holiday films of all time. smile

What about Muppet's Christmas Carol?

Edit: Ok, I don't know why, but thinking of A Christmas Story reminds me heavily of The Sandlot. I know it's not a holiday movie, but has anyone here seen it?

My favorite Christmas special to watch the past few years has been the annual Doctor Who Christmas Specials...  Kylie Minogue this year was superb.
