I happened across the Team Nekokan version of this (the second link you posted) about four months ago, and instantly fell in love.  There's also:

Clear made wa Nemuranai! (I Won't Sleep Until it's Clear!):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EG_GnjntufY

Koitsu wa Honto ni Kyouryoku Suru Ki ga Aru no ka? (These Guys Really Want to Help?):

Wish I could find me some mp3s!

what, the, hell, is that all about.

Please explain. Lots of details, translation of lyrics, etc.

Ha! Here's one about a guy who can't finish a hentai game.

Also, there's an English version of the airman video.

EDIT: Actually, I guess that's already at the Kotaku site above. I assumed from Ramza's question that no one had linked the English verison.

Here's the album. The delta project also just released its third album at C73 for Seiken Densetsu 2/3. Still waiting on it to be shipped so I haven't heard it yet.

okay, so ... it's a song about how hard Megaman 2 is, and how Airman is an uber-cheap boss, and how item #2 is amazing.

I like that.

The "I can't beat hentai games" parody is also excellent.

So how did this originate? I guess that was my big question. And watching YouTube vids doesn't give me an answer.

Haha, sure enough, I guess I assumed it was the crappy version Kotaku posted and passed it up.  Whoops!

It was just a fan-arrangement. It gained much popularity after being uploaded in niconico douga (smile videos) which has grown as big as youtube in Japan. Unlike youtube, the site is virtually only for Japanese, and the atmosphere is, well, very weird (too much 2ch-ish). A place for funniness.

THANK YOU Cedille for the straight answer with info! This is very helpful for me. Cool stuff.
