Was talking to Zane about Endless Ocean, and figured I'd ask people what music they're going to stream in-game.  Actually, I doubt most people will buy this "game," but it's exciting that you can stream your own mp3s from the SD card on the Wii.  Some of my first thoughts were:

Super Mario Bros. - Underwater
Super Metroid - Meridia
Metroid Prime 2 - Submerged Temple

EDIT: Oh... and Creed - Arms Wide Open

Here are a couple of my picks:

"The Sea" - Abandoner
"Crashed Frigate Orpheon" - Metroid Prime
"Jellyfish Sea" - Chrono Cross
"2,000,000 Leagues Under the Sea" - Viewtiful Joe

I'd recommend these:

Ys VI - The Zemeth Sanctum
Romancing Saga ~Minstrel Song~ - Lost in the Forest (I know it says forest, but it's a good, relaxing song)
Musashiden II Blademaster - White Whale of Heaven
SaGa Frontier II - Weltall
Persona 3 Fes - Instertice of Time

and....

Rockman 8 - Underwater Stage

...for good measure.

Running Wild's discography...Pirate metal sounds like it'll work for this.

"The Lions of the Sea...They ride the wind, eternally...They fight to be free."

And some Bubbleman/Blue Water Blue Sky for good measure.

It is a cool concept, but not sure I'd be interested in this 'game' for very long.

Is there a plot? Is there a quest? Is there a story?

Honestly, if I really would like to see some cool underwater environments in a realistic way, I'll go snorkeling or scuba diving. I'm intertersted to hear what people think. Anyone gonna get it?

cheers,

The quest is to get the various items you need to go to DEEP SEA VALLEY.  But I imagine you get the items for taking enough photos in a given area, etc, so it's not really much of a game.  I'm just excited about putting my own music in there.  Heck, I'm even kind of curious about the music in the game, as it is geared for casual gamers.

Bubble Man!  Forgot about that one.

I thought the 360 supported custom soundtracks in every game...

Arcubalis Jan 16, 2008

Does.  But if you can do it in just ANY game, it really isn't a feature of any particular game.  The fact that Endless Ocean was made specifically to make use of this is interesting.

BioShock Main Theme ~ The Ocean on His Shoulders
(and Empty Houses just for being so great)

Although, I just remembered that only that one track can be played so a short track looping over and over might get annoying.

Gotta start paying closer attention to ambient stuff that might fit in.

Interesting bit of info.

Just beat the game, and Ayako Saso is credited for the music and Shinji Hosoe for sound design.  Most of the game's music is actually by Hayley Westenra, but there are pieces of music here and there that aren't vocal tracks by Westenra.  Hopefully I'll have an article up with my impressions of the audio this week, but I thought it was pretty funny that SuperSweep handled the audio for this game.

Endless Ocean = EverBlue?

I know Hosoe and Saso composed music or sound for that one by ARIKA. Any relation?

Same game.  "Forever Blue."  Released as "Endless Ocean" in the US.  Saso did mostly these generic "tropical island" tracks.  Hosoe apparently did sound design.

You can beat this game!?

Arcubalis Jan 23, 2008

Haha, yeah, well... there is a plot, kind of.  I actually enjoyed the "game."  I didn't really dig the whole petting fish and learning about them, but it was fun to explore the sea.  Anyway, after a point, the credits come, so you technically "beat" it.  ;D

^Nice.

Also, I watched a video of this game on page 2 of IGN's review and there was a vocal song playing in the background.  I'm wondering if there are actual vocal songs in the game or if they loaded up some SD card tunes.

Ahh, that's what I was wondering too, as I played the EverBlue on the PS2 many years ago...  Did they at least upgrade the graphics a little?  It was kinda fun, hopefully this is an improved sequel instead of a direct port?

It's a new game, not a port - so it's either a sequel or "spiritual sequel," I guess.
