I almost never get sick, but now I have the flu and it sucks! I would rather play Ninjabread Man on the Wii than have the flu (it's that bad)! So, I'm taking lots of fluids, theraflu, chicken soup... anyone have any helpful suggestions? Don't even remember last time I was sick like this...

Chicken soup? If it's bird flu that might be cannibalism. Is it bird flu?

Somehow I doubt it. I'm also pretty certain it's not the Spanish flu...

More a treatment than a remedy, if you're stuffed up, eat something spicy. It seems like common sense to me, but most people don't seem to realize that it'll loosen you up in no time flat.

Other than that, just stay off your feet and on your back as much as you can, rest is crucial.

Sprite/Sierra Mist will help straighten out any stomach cramps or throat pains. Ginger ale's not a bad idea, either.

Sticking your head in the freezer for a second is known to clear out your nose.

DayQuil or NyQuil are off-the-shelf medicines that can help with this kind of thing, the latter especially if you've trouble getting to sleep at night while sick.

And, of course, you could always see your doctor if you'd like something in specific that can help deal with it. If you got to a university, medical care is part of your benefits, since the expense is taken out of your tuition.

Very scientific, I know, but do what works, eh?

As silly as it sounds, a Coke Slurpee will help with your stomach pains and the burning up.  I was raised on this remedy, and have since passed it onto my wife and teh baby.  Hope you feel better!

I've had flu-like symptoms myself for the past week or so.  I've been taking antibiotics (Levaquin this time) since this dumb sinus infection thing always happens to me now and again.  Otherwise it seems like you're doing everything you can do.  I like to drink apple juice when I'm feeling dehydrated from illness.  Clear soft drinks are good for the stomach, as was mentioned. (same goes for Nyquil and sleeping; I've been using Equate Nite Time)  And if you've got a sore throat, you could try gargling mouth wash or sucking on cough drops.  The one good thing about being sick is that it's an opportunity to play some videogames without feeling guilty.

Maybe it's just me, but Nyquil is too powerful, as I invariably feel ultra sluggish and drugged the next morning. Whenever I visited a doctor they would tell me to stop taking it because it made my heartbeat too fast.

WELL, the stuff CAN be pretty radical; I only take half of a recommended dose (1TBSP).

...

Try not to overcompensate, some medicines may end up drying you out too much, and that'll just make yourself even more vulnerable to sickness.

I would imagine that everybody reacts a little differently to it, so it's always a good idea to use your discretion when necessary.
