Played it and finished it. Wow, that's one short game. It's very funny, just like the show - probably a little more like the latter episodes in terms of the humour, which suits me fine as, going back to the first season, I didn't find the early ones as funny. The animation is more stiff however, but that doesn't take away from the humour.

There's much to enjoy here and the Capcom cameos, while short, are nice to see. Many parts had me laughing out loud, one highlight being exploring Peanut's computer.

The game itself though, well, I just wasn't convinced that this was a better experience than just popping on a few episodes. It's a little like Phoenix Wright of course but it lacks some of the logic and it certainly lacks the pacing. The cases just wander about being funny and then end. There's no build-up, no climax. More often than not, the credits pop up at the end of the case and I'm thinking 'what? That was it?'.

But definitely a funny game.

It would be weird hearing the Phoenix Wright characters talk at this stage but Harvey Birdman shows just how much voice acting can add. The acting is really strong in terms of the comedy and simply wouldn't have had the impact had it been just text.

Which version did you get?  I'm still on the fence as to which one I should pick up myself.

I'd heard the game leaves a better impression if you're a fan of the show.  As you obviously are, Jay, would you still recommend it to folks who have never watched the series?

I got the PSP version. To my knowledge all the versions are pretty much the same but the handheld thing made the choice easy.

I would say yes, I'd recommend it to people who didn't know the show. That's as long as you know there's not a huge amount or even a medium amount of actual game there. I actually think it would be a really good introduction to the show. The show itself took a while to find its feet and the style of humour but the game pulls it off flawlessly. You may well go in for the game bits and find yourself coming out a fan of the show. The game totally stands alone too so you need no knowledge of the show whatsoever to enjoy it.

No Stephen Colbert voicing Phil = lose

But seriously, I've watched my friend play this for a bit and think anyone curious about Birdman is better off spending those bucks on the DVDs of the show then this game.

I'd second both of Zorbfish's points --- Stephen Colbert's voice acting (both Sebben and Reducto) is missing, which hurts.  If only they'd have nabbed him while his show was on WGA hiatus...

The other point, I'm a fan of the show and have them on DVD.  My suggestion would be to get those, then try out the game, because most of the humor is derived from what was previously established.  My opinion, though, so whatever.

I played it on Wii, and it looked and sound good on a big screen tv.  I rented it from Gamefly, and wrestling with the idea of keeping it for $30, even though it is only 5 cases/episodes that can be finished in one good sitting.  I played it with a couple of friends, also fans of not only the show but a lot of Adult Swim, and we all pretty much enjoyed it.  It does have the odd effect of making me want to go back to Phoenix Wright.

I think because Colbert isn't such a big thing to me (his show is on some satellite channel over here but I only ever find it about once every three months), I didn't miss him all that much and I actually thought that Sebben's voice was really funny in the game. I guess that wouldn't be a big thing for Angela either if she's not all that familiar with the show.

I know what you mean about Phoenix Wright though. I was the same. In terms of actual game, Wright kicks its ass all over, well, somewhere large.
