Hey Zane!
You can thank French TV for being so "pointless"!
This is not a good advertisement for our programmes,as this kind of TV "show" is mostly watched by people over 50 (if not 60...),and reeeeaaaally boring for most young people.I had never seen that thing, but that's really crazy.I just can't believe it,and yet...
And you didn't miss anything, only very flat comments.

Not to speak for Zane, but I don't think he meant to imply this was "pointless" programming, but rather impressive in a dorky sort of way. One of the ESPN channels will show trick shot competitions from time to time, and it's great entertainment--not just for its zany (and indeed, ridiculous) stunts, but for the showmanship and overt competitive streaks amongst the participants. That, and how the standard uniform for such competitions requires tacky vests... smile

Thats crazy!!  And pretty pointless

Speaking of French television... does anybody know of any interesting French TV shows (other shows)?  I really need to improve with listening skill, and I'm assuming TV/Radio is one of the best ways to do that without living in a French speaking area.

It depends on what kind of language level you are looking for.As in every countries,we have a huge number of dumb TV shows with people sometimes speaking in an almost uncorrect language.Maybe you should try watching the news on TF1,or practice on M6,which has short news that last for about 10 minutes only.Alas, there are less and less clever TV programmes on the regular channels, and the best programmes are sent to satellite TV channels. It may not be very interesting depending on how old you are,but "ripostes" on France 5 is actually appreciated by some of my friends (we're all around 25).It deals with some themes concerning society (mainly French society).Actually,France 5 may be the best channel, and the most clever one, to improve your oral comprehension skills, even if the programmes may be boring.Concerning radio,I don't listen much to it,but RTL (not RTL2) and Europe 1 are serious radios with correct language (but so boring to me that I almost never listen to them).
That was a long, useless, and out of the blue speech, but it's over now.I hope I've been useful to you,CsK.

Most impressive part of that demonstration? The fact that, 3 times in a row, that yellow billiard ball SUCCESSFULLY moved from one table to another along the pool cue. Those things are THIN. Truly, truly remarkable.

I don't see how this was pointless. I totally loved it. I doubt I'd like what the "young people" watch in France, Sven. This was cooler. tongue

The most pointless thing is not the billiard video itself, actually. It's the whole programme around it.No interesting comment,no interesting guests, just some fools coming to promote their own works, with almost nothing clever to say.The video is just thrown like that, out of the blue, just to show some curious things of the world.I'd really prefer a programme with only videos like that and useful comments on HOW these guy can do that crazy thing.

The thing,Ramza,is that this kind of video will also be shown in other programmes (we see things like that twice or thrice,on other channels, especially internet videos).Young people here watch a wide range of programmes, from the dumbest TV series to the most clever debates/themed programmes. It just depends on what you like, but I'm pretty sure you would get really bored in front of such a programme, waiting 1 hour, only for like 4 or 5 videos like that, maybe less, with no information. It's not the point of this show.

Thanks Sven, I'll try to look for RTL and Europe 1.  It'll probably be harder to find how to see TV, anyway. I will also try to see if I can find Ripostes, thanks again!
