I just got done with the most lovely shift at my new job... (yes, there is a reason I don't post as much anymore!)

Sometimes we have to work overtime on Sat and we don't know if we do until Friday.

So yesterday (Friday) I was told the shift was going to be 3 to 11 which is the usual time we work on a weekday.

I get to work today around 2:30 only to find my co-workers already working. I'm very puzzled and they start telling me I'm late.

This was a joke. I was late but I wasn't late. How? Well, it was correct the shift was to be 3-11 but today around 11:52 they changed the shift to 1 to 9. Why? Well, the thing is the other three people on my line (including the supervisior) are related, and I guess one of them had something to do later beyond 9:00. Since they all know each other making the change was easy, but lo and behold, they couldn't contact me because my phone number was in the office and it is locked on the weekends.

So this means I lost an hour and a half worth of pay so one of them wouldn't lose two hours pay. This is what I call bullshit.

It's not even about the money either. Considering I'm a new employee, I'm on a probation period so I don't really want to miss any work or get any marks - not to mention build up a reputation for being dependable. I was told this wouldn't count against me but I found their actions to be very inconsiderate and disrespectful and I didn't care for how they tried to spin it - "so and so was late as well." SO? He's the damn boss on the floor and he can be late if he wants to! Don't compare me to someone that has much more sway!

The final kick in the balls was when I asked my supervisior if he wanted my cell number in case something like this came up again. He showed no interest... guess he only cares about his cronies.

Anyway, we finished an hour early so I guess that some sort of compensation. Anyway, sorry I had to vent...

I'd like to say I'm sorry for writing the dreck above, I slept on it and I really overreacted. I had a really long week that was actually harder than my first week and I just really need some rest.

Not necessarily the jobs, but the people in the jobs. nevertheless, I approve and agree with your sentiments, fellas.

I dunno, from the look of it, I don't think you overreacted at all.
They neglected their responsibilities towards you, which is Bad Form to say the least.

Totally typical...I definitely sympathize.

Nepotism, Politics, and general BS.

The sooner you realize this type of stuff, and learning how to navigate it successfully,  is upwards of  70 % (yes that high) of the job...the better off you will be.

Also, don't worry too much, your reputation, once you've built it, overtime will speak louder than anything else.  In the meantime, be sure to leave 'work' at work.  Easier said than done sometimes...
