I second Rocko, Nickelodeon is terrible at releasing full box sets for anything unless it's a cash cow (Spongebob, Avatar) excluding Invader Zim.

I adored Freakazoid so this is fantastic news for me. Yeah, I'd also love to see a Rocko's Modern Life set.

I don't even think Nick was involved with releasing Ren & Stimpy on DVD either, right?  Nick's logo isn't on the box.

Even their live-action shows don't get much love---they released Are You Afraid of the Dark? in Canada, and a season of Alex Mack and Clarissa, and two seasons of Pete & Pete.  Not sure why some companies are so hesitant to release their stuff---DiC is bad about this too.  You'd think with all the double and triple-dipping of DVDs that they'd have nothing left to release.  It's weird.  *shrug*

While it's old news that these two titles are coming to DVD, at least the release dates are new!  I'm especially looking forward to Freakazoid after having re-watched the series just last week.  Unfortunately, the second season was severely dumbed down, and wasn't nearly as funny.

Nick didn't have the rights to R&S when it came to DVDs. They had let go of the rights to R&S a while back. Actually I don't think they had a choice. The rights reverted to John K and he wasn't going to let Nick have them back ever and he went to Spike as far as I remember.

I'm pretty sure this was the case, the best R&S episodes were before John K was fired anyway.

As for rights for other nicktoons, from what I've read Disney and Nick are fighting over the rights for Doug which may explain why the original series hasn't been aired forever either.

Fan-freakin'-tastic!!  I'll be sure to pick up the Tiny Toons set as they were some of my favourites.  The episodes with Baby Plucky were hilarious.

The only real DVD set I would care to see from Nickelodeon would be The Angry Beavers.  Spoot!

Flippers = fail. Animaniacs got a proper 5 discs, but TINY TOONS gets only 4? Is there no justice in the world?! I really, really want to get the "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" episodes on DVD, but the flipper fiasco and the fact that the high-def format war is over makes me think I'll just wait.

Disney's Doug was pretty awful. I wonder what there is to fight over, though? Why don't they just release their respective seasons?

I agree with your Tiny Toons sentiment, but you'll pay dearly for this Doug comment. Don't make me sic Porkchop on you; he's vicious when he wants to be.

Uh-oh, hell hath no fury like Angela scorned wink

I was a HUGE fan of old-skool Doug, but the Disney version tried to change too much too soon. The new intro paled in comparison to the original, the new animation lacked charm, Patti had a horrible haircut, and worst of all, no Billy West. Actually, switch those last two: Patti's haircut was the greatest tragedy of all. Granted, I haven't seen either series in years, so maybe my opinion will change if I see them again. For now, though, Disney's Doug goes into the "bad ideas" corner along with Rugrats Tweens.

Incidentally, Porkchop is #4 on my list of most adorable cartoon dogs, trailing only Odie, Snoopy, and Puddles.

I was gonna say something similar, Ms. Angela, but I hesitated on the basis that my memories of the show might have a shinier coat than the show actually was. It's been forever since I've seen it. Has it held up, I wonder?

Who is Puddles?

Ah, I see.  I was referring to old-school Nick Doug..... which, Idolores, yeah, I do feel holds up exceptionally well today. I don't think I watched enough of the Disney version to formulate an opinion either way; must've only seen like two episodes when the new show was in its infancy - when it was still "Brand Spanking New Doug."

I'm wondering that myself.  It sounds so vaguely familiar.... my first thought was, "Pound Puppies"? :p
