I don't know if anyone here is a Vince DiCola fan.  He did Rocky IV and Transformers: The Movie (1986), which is one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.  I was really shocked to see his name come up on the recent Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Soundtrack, so I got in touch with him to see what he's been up to for the last... 20 years.  Really awesome guy with a lot to say:

The track itself is pretty awesome.  It would have been nice if they had included "Truth" on the album.

I had no idea he'd contribute to this. I love his work, personally, and am glad he is still active. Last I heard, he was thinking of contributing some work for the 2007 Transformers flick, but I don't know if that actually went through.

He discussed it briefly here.  His thought is that they wanted to go in a completely different direction and he doubts his music even got into the right hands.

Yeah, good to see he's back.  Gotta catch up on all his solo work over the past 20 years!

PS.  Artistic Transformations ROCKS.  Piano arrangements of his work on TF.

Yeah, the Transformers soundtrack is great smile
Of course, I think most of that is nostalgia... but still, it's cool to see he's doing other things!

cheers,

Wasn't that a Botcon Exclusive CD, along with "Til All Are One" and "Lighting Their Darkest Hour"? Wish I could find those. I got lucky at HMV and found an original print of the movie soundtrack, promptly snatching it up.

Wish I could find those other ones. sad

Protoform Sessions was exclusive as well, and is pretty cool.  However, I think those ones you mentioned and Protoform were Botcon only.  Artististic Transformations is available on Travis Dickerson Records.

I should email and ask if he has any copies of those other ones if there's a big enough demand here.  wink

Great interview man!  Good questions too.  Nicely done with photos and all.  Doug's a friend and a great guy (and great guitar player).  Vince, I'm a huge fan as I think most of us are.  I highly recommend the Thread cd, great melodic rock / progressive.  I haven't picked up the 'Falling off a Clef' cd yet, but I think I have everything else.  Anyone have that one?  Would love to hear the Transformers 'demo' that Michael Bay turned down.

Cheers
