This week:
Sikth - Death of a Dead Day
SikTh is a progressive metal band from Watford, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.
I hadn't heard anything about this band before I downloaded (yes, I know) DOADD, but I ended up liking it so much that I went out and bought it (now we're even).
This was, in all actuality, my favourite album of 2006. Every last track has so many redeeming qualities it's insane. The drummer is superb - always doing something a little inventive, which matches nicely with the dual guitar work and groovy bass.
Let's get it straight, these guys aren't hardcore, they're not death metal, they're not really any sort of defined music genre. They proclaim themselves as "weird-core", but their music contains elements of progressive, hardcore, and straight-up metal.
I've been spinning this one in my CD player since I bought it and I keep finding reasons to come back to it. If anyone's a fan of anything metal, then this is something you're sure to enjoy. I know I have.
Here's the link in case any of you want to try it out: http://www.sendspace.com/file/ywiuic
It's encoded at a pretty high bit rate so not alot is missed.
My recommendations: "Way Beyond the Fond old River", "When the Moment's Gone", "Part of the Friction", and "Another Sinking Ship".
