That's too bad...

http://apnews.myway.com//article/200805 … ENRG0.html

I'm sure people will still flock to see it, and I'm sure Angela will say it's fantastic (right smile
but being a huge fan of Raiders, which I thought was by far the best of the bunch, I'm sure I'll be disappointed. Ah well, what can you do. Feel free to post your thoughts...

Well I'm going to see it tomorrow. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be good but I'm also not preparing pre-excuses, which some people seem to be doing - oh, it can't live up to nostalgia and all that. If it's crap, it's crap. But it looks to me like it has the right ingredients and if it's a half decent romp with Old Man Indy, I'll be happy. I'm not expecting it to blow me away but I'm expecting to have fun watching it.

UK magazine Empire gave it 4 out of 5 stars I think. It's been getting mixed reports. But then so did Temple of Doom and Last Crusade. Watching those as an adult, okay, Last Crusade is like Indy Lite but it's still enjoyable.

Though when I first heard they were doing it, I thought it would be a train wreck because Ford is a senior citizen and could barely string a sentence together last time I saw him interviewed.

Was an entirely new thread for this bit of news really necessary, when a topic already exists just a few rows down?

Anyway, one negative review does not a general consensus make - especially when it's offset by a number of more glowing impressions before it.  That said, the reviewer does bring up some comments that might be called for concern, such as the overuse of CG effects, and the relationship factor. (I loved the father-son rapport in The Last Crusade; it was one of my most favorite aspects of that film.)

Not necessarily, now.  For all the self-hype I've been building myself upon, there's a chance that it won't be as good as I'm hoping it'll be - and I won't know for sure until I walk outta that theater.  I've learned to rely less and less on the critics for the final say, and use my own judgment as a barometer.  It's a strange way of reviewing, but it's worked for me so far.

.... ;)

If you're so sure, then why see the new movie at all?  No, serious question.  If you know your experience with the Indy series had been shattered twice before, and that nothing will ever match up to Raiders, then why aim for thrice?

Well as Jay said, an Indy-lite film could still be fun. Besides, movies are fun depending on who you go with... either your friends, or preferably a hot date smile Although yeah, I really am quite certain it will be disappointing in a number of ways. I've always thought that SFX rely far too heavily on computers these days, and I figure Indy is just another victim. I wonder if 30 years from now we won't even have actors, since they'll be replaced by computers? As for myself, I've yet to see Iron Man...

I'm also curious as what Jay said, about Harrison Ford not being able to string sentences together. Is he sick (and by sick I mean seriously ill)?

Reviews do seem to be wildly inconsistent. Most people agree that Ford is terrific, the middle section is exposition-heavy (and dull) and the CGI are overdone.

Also, word has it that the music has been dialed down so low as to be practically inaudible.

There's a quick, spoiler-free round-up of early reviews here: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20201112,00.html
2 negative, 5 positive, and 2 neutral. Doesn't look so bad to me.

It's been a couple of years since I saw the previous movies in their entirety, so I partook in Sci-Fi Channel's crazy-long Indy marathon this past weekend to refresh my memory. Honestly, I still love every single one. Raiders definitely had the best mix of action and comedy, but Temple of Doom and Last Crusade had so many iconic scenes that I'm still surprised people so readily dismiss them.

Now to find my copy of Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis....

I remember reading months ago that Spielberg wanted to use as little CGI as possible. I wonder if Lucas forced him to renege on that?

haha What a great game! I remember playing it years ago, and thinking, "wow, this would make a great Indy movie"... and I still think so today.

If I was a director, Lucas is the last person I'd take advice from. A few decades ago, that would be a totally different story.
