Been meaning to comment on the game for awhile now; thought I'd actually started the thread about this game here, on this forum...guess not...
Finally picked this up myself earlier this month, after it finally hit the $20 tag. $50 is an absolutely ASININE price for this package, but $20 is right on the money!
It's a rather short and quick game, but I rather appreciate that!
I, myself, only ever played the first two Wario Land titles; the first, I played over and over again, practically ever family road trip I was ever on, back in the day...that, and Link's Awakening! Wario Land 2, didn't care for so much; I rather thought the invincibility detracted from the challenge and purpose of the game...and I didn't find the levels very catchy, or the transformations all that useful...

I'll say; this really could've easily been a WiiWare title!... not to say anything disparaging of it, of course!
Qui-Gon Joe wrote:Holy crap, it's a freaking playable cartoon. This could well be the coolest looking 2D game I've ever seen.
I definitely appreciate how fluid and detailed the animation is! It's like Wario, but anime-styled!
Angela wrote:...I managed to get through most of the core quest, which was a generally straightforward, easy-going affair. Going back and partaking in the challenge missions, however, I am finding the game to have a lot more in terms of replayable longevity. Some of these challenges are devilishly difficult, but the desire to strive for 100% has suddenly become priority.
The game's quick to get through if you go straight for each level's goal, but a real appreciation for the game arises when you attempt the extra challenges, which REALLY require you to become familiar with each level, so you can fulfill whatever mission it is you're trying to pursue!
Kenology wrote:My only beef is having the shake the Wiimote while holding it in classic mode... I don't like that. I haaaaaaated it in Super Paper Mario. Hopefully, you won't have to shake as violently for the motion to register like in SPM.
I appreciate the amount of Waggle they put into the game; having an excuse to gratuitously shake the Wiimote is...gratifying. Granted, I shake it one-handed when I have to do it, then go back to playing it two-handed after I'm done shaking it.
shdwrlm3 wrote:The only problem I have is that they're taking a cue from Wario Land 4 instead of 2 or 3. I much preferred the "invincible Wario" gameplay and didn't like having to worry about hearts. Although, really, I'll take whatever I can get at this point.
Well, if it's any consolation, most of the enemies aren't even able to harm you, much less even do a whole lot of harm, even if they do; I've only had to worry about stationary obstacles like spikes or pits...it's the missions that make the game difficult, not the enemies...they're just there to get the crap tackled out of them! (Devilish Face!)
Carl wrote:Maybe because Wario is completely unappealing?? I've never understood why he's so popular.
I rather like how he's a greedy bastard who likes tackling people for fun and profit! He's kind of like Eric Cartman (South Park) - he's inconscionable in many respects, but at the bottom of it all, he's really just like a kid whose chief concern is just to have fun!
shdwrlm3 wrote:I'm also really digging the music, especially during the last 20 seconds.
YES. Anybody have a gamerip of the soundtrack? Or was there an official release (I'm guessing not?)
*Whew*
Most well-thought-out-post EVAR.
