Here's my breakdown on the POP games, based on my experiences with them:
Sands of Time (beaten 3x): The quintessential POP experience that should not be missed by any fan of action/platforming games. This is the title that the other two games were built on structurally and is the most pure of the trilogy. It's the Prince at his most charming, the environments and Dagger of Time abilities are fresh, and the overall experience from the game is top notch (all six hours of it).
Warrior Within (beaten 3x): This game features an angry Prince, Godsmack music during some chase scenes and some occasional buggy gameplay and programming. But! It is my personal favorite of the three POP titles due to its great continuation of the POP-style puzzles and platforming, a deeper fighting system and a great soundtrack (minus the Godsmack, of course). Unfortunately, the game received some negative criticism for having a forced, "darker" storyline and attitude for the Prince, but the game itself is really damn good. And now I want to play it again.
Two Thrones (beaten 2x): This is somewhere between SOT and WW in terms of storyline and gameplay, I'd say, but it mostly goes back to the less-oppressive personality the Prince had pre-WW. The addition of the Dark Prince is awesome, and the storyline wraps itself up in a nice little bundle, complete with shiny paper and a ribbon. I don't recommend playing this (or WW) without playing the games that precede it, but if you're made it through SOT and WW you owe it to yourself to play this game. It was nice seeing the Prince inject some humor into the series again with some witty dialog. And, as if I had to say it, platforming and puzzles are top notch!
So, my recommendation: definitely check out Sands of Time. If you finish it and wish to play more, check out Warrior Within, but keep in mind that the tone of the game is different (although the gameplay is very similar). And then, of course, if you're still interested in the series, wrap it up with Two Thrones.
I can't say I'm too pumped about the new POP, though. The visuals are nice, but the fact that it's easier and that the ghostly little female character can actually save you from death means that casual gaming is overtaking mainstream gaming. Wait... aren't they the same thing now anyway?
