Did anyone see this on Play Asia?  http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-40- … -2o8c.html  A Sunsoft collection?  Unfortunately it looks like it's only going to consist of two fighting games, Galaxy Fight / Waku Waku 7.  MAN what a wasted opportunity.  I got my hopes up thinking that I'd be able to play Blaster Master on the PS2, or maybe some of their other NES triumphs, but no....

SNK is publishing the title, which may be significant??

Interesting that you posted this. I just recently watched the tool assisted runs of Blaster Master 1 and 2, mainly to hear the music in context. Both BMs have very lackluster boss environments, but that may have been done to relieve stress. I also recall that the bosses in Lifeforce had plain backgrounds - just black. Such care for the psychology of the player was certainly forgotten in many games, like G-Darius.

I also believe that Sunsoft made Batman on the NES, which became sorely difficult in the later levels. I can also recall Spy Hunter and it would be nice if they gave it an ending. I remember you could endlessly find the boat, turn back into a car, find the boat, turn back into a car.

Needs more Aero The Acrobat.  And just to round things out, Zero the Kamikaze Squirrel.

I'm trying to recall if Sunsoft was responsible for the awesome beat-em-up based Batman Returns for the SNES.  Or was that Konami?

As for Spy Hunter, I never bought into any of the home versions, surprisingly, but I spent countless quarters playing the arcade version when I was young.  I actually remember my dad being way better at the game than I ever was. ;)

Whenever I think Sunsoft, my brain automatically thinks of Hudson Soft and Adventure Island on the NES. sad

While thinking of Spy Hunter, I remember there was another game of indefinite length - Xenophobe, also by Sunsoft. I was curious and read the review at gamefaqs and it appears the arcade version was much better. When I was a kid, I didn't know any better; I just thought there was a particular item I could never find (there were many) and that was why the game kept repeating itself. Imagine if you were playing Contra and Konami forgot to put in the end credits; after beating level 8, you would proceed to level 1. As the player, you might assume you did something wrong, because there was no proper ending. As I recall, Contra would cycle indefinitely, but at least there was a sense of finality.

Xenophobe also offered 2 players at the same time. I remember playing that game for many hours with my brother or one of my cousins. There was a general consensus that we were missing some crucial item, so the notion was not peculiar to my mind. I wonder how many other young gamers futilely tried to beat Xenophobe.
