I got this game, and it's a very nice shmup game with full ship, enemy, and level editor.  It's the same editor the developers use to create the basic game.

The basic premise is "katamari shooter."  Shoot enemies and when they are "destroyed," they flip in the air.  You can then attach them to your ship to use a shield or use their firepower.  You can attach large enemies and boss parts.  I have had screen-filling crazy monstrosity shooting all over the place.

I've been eyeing this one, it looks interesting.  Any word on actual reviews?

^ You get a $10 gift card from Circuit City if you buy it, I believe.  So that might help?  I think they may have added stuff to it, plus you can share your creations with people online through the Wii.  I'll be renting it and see what it is like.

It is cool, but it's 100% based on a freeware Windows shmup by the legendary Kenta Cho...so $40 makes me a little iffy.

The single player game is based on Tumiki Fighters, and one of the unlockables is the Tumiki Fighters game itself.  However, the game is sold as standalone game plus shmup sandbox.  If you wanted to make your own shmup using the game's engine, you can do so (within some limits).  You can submit your created ships, enemies, and levels to the official website and download other user-created items.  (http://blastworksdepot.com/games/blastworks/)

Some people put up some sprite-based player ships, like the Vic Viper, R-9, and Mega Man + Rush.

If you only just want to play a shooter, then $40 is probably too much (although it has 10+ levels, while the average shooter has 5-6).  But the ability to create new objects for the game is a very interesting proposition.

I've definitely had some good fun with this game.

Thanks for the link to TUMIKI Fighers, it's pretty cool for a 6MB freebie.

Apparently this game is now 19.99 everywhere, though I've heard it's gone as low as 9.99 at various places.  Just FYI, if anybody's planning to pick it up!

It was $9.99 for one day at Best Buy (grabbed myself one) and then it jumped back up to $19.99 the next day.  The single player is a bit shallow, or maybe it just has to grow on me.  In any case, I'm glad I only paid the 10 bucks.
