BTW, the trailer is all serious, but the "white zone is for loading" background voice reminded me of the movie Airplane.

Anyone planning to see this?  I don't think I'll go to the theaters to see it, but will probably catch it on DVD.  Unlike King Kong, I don't see how this movie experience really needs or will be enhanced by a theatrical setting... of course, it will be the first time ever (and the first of two this year, at least, what with Stone's WTC movie) that we in the US, as far as I know, will get to see 9/11 events on the big screen---because we didn't get enough of it on the small screen, right?

Well, that's an easy way of tallying poll results...

Mm, I'll likely not see it in theaters.  Personally, I view the movie-going experience as an entertainment affair, and somehow, the subject matter for U93 veers into territory I wouldn't quite want to call "entertainment."

As for Stone's WTC, I'm going to bypass it altogether.  Being a New Yorker who, although wasn't directly affected by the events, weaved in and out of many peoples' lives in the past four years who were affected to grasp the stark reality.  On that conscientious level, I probably wouldn't be able to bring myself to watch the film.

That's a perfectly reasonable view of course.  However, it's well established that movies are art, and are not merely for entertainment but also for education and enrichment.  Since movies reach so many people, I think it's very important that producers continue making films with subject matter that's difficult to see (such as the WTC, Holocaust, etc).  I might go see this film, it really depends on how well made and accurate it is.  Obviously, we all know the ending already.  Definitely, it'll be hard to see.

I am going to go see this movie- that is, assuming it comes to Kansas (i.e., Wichita or Hutchinson), since nothing good ever comes here anyway. Might make for a nice change for a while. As for the film and its subject matter, yes, the subject of reliving 9-11 (although, not from anyone's perspective connected directly with that date) can be harrowing and sad- even maybe to anger. But, after five years, it is time to heal. I can not even imagine what those who had lost someone has been going through. But, from those I saw in the United 93 interview, I agree. It is time to heal. If my grandparents could watch Pearl Harbor after living it- my grandfather served on the USS West Virginia that morning- and regardless of resurfaced painful memories and tears and still watch it again and again, then watching United 93 is worth it if only to follow their example.

I do have to agree with the person who said that he hoped it would be a justifiable film- meaning, that the makers do not skipped out or make the people characterized less than they were (not that we truly know what went on, but let's keep them heroes). And, I have also heard of Oliver Stone's upcoming World Trade Center movie. My only wish is that he does not do some BS like James Cameron did with Titanic and those who made Pearl Harbor. Screw the love story crap. And, being it is about two male Port Authority employees, there sure as hell better be none of that Brokeback Mountain crap!

9-11-2001 is still fresh in our minds. My son was born in the following year, so he will not know a life prior to that date. And, these films, including A&E's made for TV movie, Flight 93, need to be accurate and as close to the truth as possible. Granted we all know what the ending will be for United 93. But, I still intend on seeing it regardless so that when my son is old enough, he can see what his father has told him about the heroes of that day. And, if the movie bombs (by my opinion not box office stuff), then I won't buy a copy on DVD and I will let him see Flight 93 instead. It was a great movie. So, with that one, I can only hope that this one ranks as the best of the two 93 films or at least, is evenly good.
