So, lately, I've been seeing a lot of YouTube parodies of "Caramelldansen," a Japanese techno song.

So, what's the deal with this song, who's the artist, and where can I snag a copy?

Maybe I should start by asking, what's their exact name? I've seen it spelled so many different ways, I don't know which is correct...

EDIT: Ah, here's the parody I saw on Screwattack.com: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/user … 57254.html

I've also seen versions with the Mother 2/Earthbound characters, and Obama & Hillary.

It's actually Swedish, not Japanese. The fact that a lot of the lyrics can be interpreted as Japanese is apparently part of the joke, though. There's a pretty detailed summary of the phenomenon at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caramelldansen

And why on earth would you actually want a copy? wink  It's all over iTunes, but if you want a physical copy there was a Japanese single released with really bizarre remixes: http://9819.jp/cd/exit_tunes/qwce00048.html

There was a cute video I saw with Nintendo characters, but for the life of me I still don't get it.

...

So, I take it it's just a single, there's no full-feature-length album?

For the most part, CDs are my only way of getting the music; I find downloading stuff to be a pain-in-the-ass. Granted, I used to use DC++. And as for BitTorrent? FUHGETTABOUTIT.

Oh, and iTunes? Apple can go kindly iPhuq themselves. Apple's a fruit. Apple's a food. Apple's NOT computer technology.

Thanks for pointing all of this out to me, though. 'Preciate it.

The distinction between fruits and vegetables is surprisingly complicated, but I'm pretty sure apple is universally regarded to be a fruit...

There's a full album that comes in two flavors: Original and Speedycake. The "Speedycake" version is basically the original with all of the songs sped up about 30%. The version of "Caramelldansen" used in most of the YouTube/NicoNico videos is the Speedycake mix.

The Japanese version of the album only features the speedy remixes: http://9819.jp/cd/exit_tunes/qwce20001.html
All of the track titles were changed to kaomoji for maximum annoyance.

Honestly, I think there's far better stuff out there in terms of Swedish dance music. Like, say, Smile.dk. big_smile

Oh, Goddamnit...did I call apple a vegetable again?! Fruit grows on trees, vegetables grow in the soil.

Let's get back to our MAIN topic though, shall we?!

Technically any plant is a vegetable.

Ah, I tell ya, those Scandanavians....they're great at dance music!...and heavy metal! (HEY, racial profiling is okay, so long as it's POSITIVE).

Thanks for the intel, soldier! I salute thee!

Looks like Amazon.com's going to be carrying the U.S. print of Smile.dk's "Party around the World" album: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CI … d_i=507846

Any other related or similar artists I should know about?

Smile.dk would be a good start. "Doki Doki," the first single off their latest album, has a few speedy remixes that are similar to "Caramelldansen." Unfortunately, I think it may be digital only.

Still, you can't go wrong with the album itself. It's pure melodic bliss.

Watched a parody with Persona 3 characters. AUGH! Mitsuru and Yukari dancing like that is damn near the cutest thing ever!

Dais Jan 30, 2009

the dance loses a little appeal when you find it's originally from a hentai game.
