Anyone else pick up LittleBigPlanet yet?   I'm well into the third world, and it's really quite excellent.  The gameplay is very rudimentary 2D platforming fare, with the emphasis being not so much on precision, but on the exploration and collecting - and there's loads of the latter.  It's comforting to know that all that collecting will be fundamental in the creating of your own levels later on.

Not that it needs to be mentioned, but the graphics are complete ambrosia for the eyes.  Painstakingly-detailed and vibrantly gorgeous, with gobs of charm in the objects and character designs.  Sackboy makes me laugh every time I see him; changing his mood and expressions on the fly is about the greatest thing ever, and playing around with his visual look is so much more varied and enjoyable than I initially thought.  You all need to dress him as an adorable lion for the savanna world.

I only briefly perused the My Moon level creator, but it certainly looks very in-depth; so much so that I'm thinking I may not have the patience nor the time for the learning curve.  Still, I'm looking forward to playing user-based levels like this one, once the servers go active.  This thread may also do well for us STC'ers to inform one another of their created levels - as well as recommending some good ones that they've come across.

Don't have permission to get my copy yet, far as I can tell (does Best Buy call people when preordered stuff comes in?*). Your shop broke date, huh?

It's funny, I wasn't going to preorder, but when the nonsense with the delay-triggering song came up, I looked at BB's site and the preorder page had disappeared. Nothing piques my desire-to-have like being stonewalled.

* - Yes, I went with Nariko-Sack. I've no idea what kind of character she is, I just wanted to deliberately snub Gamestop's KratoSack.

This is actually one of the few non-music current gen games I'm highly interested in (and a PS3 one...imagine that). A new 2D platformer is always cause for celebration, but a full blown, current gen level editor is definitely going to be new and exciting. I won't be playing it anytime soon (360 port maybe?), but I do admit this is the first time I wish I had a PS3 handy.

XLord007 Oct 26, 2008

One of my friends keeps begging me to buy this, but for whatever reason I have very little interest in it.  If Sony ever bothers to put a demo up for it, I'll check it out, but right now, there's nothing I've seen about it that makes me eager to part with $60 for it.

I actually thought it wasn't released yet? Also, I've always been amazed at your collection smile
Seems like you have just about every hot game that's released! Not that there's anything wrong with that... so if you don't mind sharing, how many games do you have for all your systems?

cheers,

Just for the record, most Gamestops countrywide were given the official go-ahead by Sony to release it early.  At least to those who preordered, anyway; a special exception, perhaps, given the eleventh hour delay from last week.

The count hasn't changed much from this thread, with the exception of PS3 and 360 entries now.  I picked up a fair number of new titles for the Wii and DS this year, too - some keepers, some not.   And at the same time, I sold/gave away an almost equal amount of titles I had previously, so my proposed 'third of a collection represented list format' still stands.

So am I the only one here who's never sold his games? If I lose something it's usually if it was stolen (nothing since some Master System games, thank goodness). The one exception is a Greatest Hits version of Twisted Metal III, which was terrible. I gave it to my nephew, but after a few days I started to feel pangs from its absence (I know, I know). When I went to get it back, I found out he'd traded it away for a Gran Turismo 3 disk. Since then, I've held out the hope that another GH copy of the game would fall on my lap for free again, but alas. This probably says more about me than I'd like it to.

On topic though, I do hope BB starts selling it tomorrow.

EDIT: Finally got it today. Haven't put a lot of time in yet (my idiosyncracies impel me to stick with the second stage until I find everything), but it's completely adorable. My sister wanted to play too, but apparently local multiplayer isn't allowed?

So now that the servers are up and fully running, I was able to indulge myself with some of the user-created levels - and I've gotta say, the imagination that some of these people have on display is staggering.  I took a run through The Azure Palace and The World of Colours, which are two of the most well developed stages I've come across so far.  But it's the video game themed ones that are a lot of fun; Super Mario Bros, Sonic's Green Hill Zone, God of War, Metal Gear Sacklid, Silent Hill..... I can't believe they were able to replicate Pyramid Head the way they did. :)

And SonicPanda, just for kicks, you've gotta check out the one titled Little Big Music - Air Man's Stage by bibineko.  Mad props for the fully composed theme song included!

Local Multiplayer is possible. I played with my sister a couple nights ago. If you turn on another PS3 controller, a sackboy should just appear. At least, it seemed that way when my sister wanted to join in. We did turn it on in the central hub, but I don't see why that would make any difference. I'd give it another go!

SonicPanda Oct 31, 2008

Dang, never thought to try just turning on another controller. I'll give that a go when I seeher on Monday.

Also, I was going to spend Halloween trying out RE4 but if there's MM stages to play, my hands are tied.

Wow. This game is beautiful. I only got it today and I'm not far into it (haven't touched the creation stuff) and I adore it already. What an amazing intro and the music with Stephen Fry's voice just melts me (he does do the US version too, right?).

You bet.  He certainly adds to the charming sensibility of the whole package, doesn't he?

I got my feet wet with multiplayer, and it's an absolute riot; ratchets up the fun tenfold.  Seems you guys aren't the only ones doing co-op with their sisters; I got Tiffany to try it out with me the other day, and we were giggling our booties off with enjoyment.  The online multiplayer is just as much fun, and pretty much a necessity if you want to nail 100% collection on some of the stages.  It's here that online chatting (either via text or voice) is a must, since you'll want to be able to coordinate your team's platforming moves properly.

Just spent my lunch hour putting together a recording of the lovely Garden theme.  Songs that have instrumental transitions throughout their levels are always a fun challenge, and I think I came up with something reasonably decent here.  What think?

Thanks for this. A lovely tune. In general, the music has been chosen perfectly. Everything really works with the feel.

I finally got to try this last night.  I'd say it's OK.  I like the idea of the thing and all, but the play mechanics just don't feel quite right.  Sackboy seems to be too heavy and slow for a platform character and the multi-plane system gets in the way more than anything.  I'm glad I didn't blow $60 on it.

Angela Dec 19, 2008

LBP's getting a Metal Gear Solid 4-themed level pack.  Check out the details here -- and then check out the trailer here.

Sackboy with guns.  Now we're talkin'. :)

The MGS level pack is good stuff, but the core levels are over just a bit too quick.  "Act 4" and "Act 5" are incredible (especially the final boss!), and the paint gun is a really fun gameplay mechanic that I'm hoping they'll integrate in future levels.

I sorta feel sorry for Ocelot by the ending now. ;)

Yeah. I rented it but after about two worlds of exploring, I stopped playing. The presentation is gorgeous and conceptually, it's an interesting idea... but the platforming is just really dull. There wasn't a sense of progression and it ultimately didn't grab me.

allyourbaseare Dec 25, 2008

Just got this for Christmas and I'd love to play with any STC'ers sometime smile  I'm on PST and ususally on around 8:00 in the evening.

allyourbaseare Jan 5, 2009

I had a chance to play with the_miker for a little bit and it was alot of fun. smile  Texting, however, was a complete load of crap (especially if the other person has a blutooth headset).  So much so that I went out and got a headset as well.  I'd love to chat it up with any of you when you're on!

SonicPanda Jan 5, 2009

Problem is, last update has caused a good amount of data deletion, so I've (sadly) been holding off until it's officially fixed.

I'm not even a proper fan of either series and this was still sweet.  Anybody kind enough to tell me where that raging arrangement is from?

Overall pretty good, some stages were better done than others, which is probably due to being a collaboration project.

There were a couple really awesome parts though, so it gets a thumbs up.  The info said the cover tune is by Vomitron.
