This is finally shipping out tomorrow.  I've been really excited about it.  We posted some final impressions on OSV along with a series of videos from myself (including a Chrono Trigger remix), GEM Impact, and The OneUps.

Also got a brief (very brief) interview with Misuda about his role on the project:

Looking forward to hearing what people do with the DS-10 when it's out here.  There are tons of videos already on YouTube, and people do some amazing things despite the limitations.

It's a pretty fun 'game' to mess around with, the interface is excellent and very user friendly, but in the end it's pretty hard to actually make something useful if you haven't had any previous experience of synthesizers.

This looks like awesome software, but yeah, the learning curve appears to be moderately steep.  Being able to spread it out across two DS systems is seriously cool shit.

I guess rather basic music creation software.  Like I said, I can't really dig into the patch cables and knob tweaking, as I really don't understand all of that.  It's fun to play around with in the sequencer though.

I was very tempted by this when it came out over here and I have a decent, but still basic, knowledge of synthesisers. But the problem is, even if you go deep into it and get some good sounds going, its use is entirely limited by the headphone output. And the headphone output on the DS doesn't seem to be all that great.

I don't know, I recorded my vids with the output to my computer's line in, and it came out pretty good.  Also recorded some tracks out of hte DS headphone jack into my laptop's mic jack, and it came out pretty good.  I was pretty surprised, given the questionable quality of some of the DS rips I've seen out there, but yeah, it actually came out pretty clean and clear.

Woah, Nobuyoshi “Sanodg” Sano was the director and producer of the DS-10 software, and Mitsuda's Procyon Studio staffers programmed the sequencer for it!!?!

I previously thought this was just KORG's idea to try tapping another market and didn't think too much about it, but it's cool to find out that this synth software was actually created by veteran game music guys!

Now it makes sense why Mitsuda was performing on the DS-10 at the EXTRA 2008 concert, I thought they were just trying out the product, but they actually helped create it!

Haha, Carl.  Man.  You've definitely been out of it!  wink

Well, here's a DS-10 Original Creation by me.
Automated the 2 VCO's to hop around and got some neat fades and subtle interactions, so I'm calling this tune "VCO Echoes". Youtube'd it now.

Very cool piece of electronica.  I particularly like that sound effect that kicks in at 1:30. :)

That neato little SFX was a square wave and patching the EG into the VCO's Pitch-In with a high Frequency setting.

It's very easy to pick up and start making all kinds of quirky noises and stuff, so the DS-10 a great sketch canvas to quickly come up with various ideas when a creative urge hits.

The sequencing feels pretty limited, which means coming up with STRUCTURED SONGS takes a lot of planning and setup to implement though.  Or maybe that's just my lack of skills, because I've never tried to write music before.  Not quite an "all in one" package, but the sound generation is fast, easy, and very satisfying.

So satisfying that it's easy to "get lost" for an hour or more at at time tweaking knobs and going along where the journey takes you.  I've had a few sessions where I had to quickly find the AC plugin because I totally drained the sucker in one sitting.

I find it quite easy to make rhythm tracks, so I'm not sure if that's due to my strengths or the DS-10 strengths, but it's harder to come up with good melodies so making vgm-goodness will still be challenging.  I'm surprised there hasn't been more hip-hop or rap communities rallying for this thing because the easy beat making would suit them well.
