I had to pick up a package earlier this week and found out it was Veteran's Day when I noticed the parking lot was empty. Actually, I wasn't annoyed by the fact I wasted gas; I was jealous that those bastards got a day off and I had to go in. It almost made me want to work for the government.

I think he might have been referring to the fact if you did work at a PO or Bank you would have had the day off.

Grad students don't really have days off. We're always working... in fact, in grad school you have to force yourself to take breaks! I'm not kidding. People who finish their PhD will usually say it's the most difficult achievement, but to many also the most rewarding. I say it has it's moments...
