Ashley Winchester Dec 6, 2008

I got off of work a little early tonight due to the fact we're a little slow and stopped off at the local gas station to fill up/grab a bite to eat like I normally do. Inside I ran into a guy I went to school with and I felt like saying hi.

Unfortunately, the conversation went sour very quickly. When I told him my name and he remembered me and the first thing out of his mouth was "you use to be a lot skinner." I was like "thanks a lot." Then he asked me where I worked and after my reply he said "seriously? I thought you were smarter than that? Didn't you go to college?"

I don't know how I didn't lose it. I really should have gone a-wall; the only thing that held me back was the place was pretty busy but what the hell? I honestly don't give a rats a$$ but I am proud of what I've accomplished even it doesn't seem like a lot to some muscle brain jock head who appears to have same amount of grace (-100) and tact he had six years ago.

Anyway, sorry for prattling on - even though it didn't shake my belief in doing what I'm doing it just made me angry someone could be so ignorant.

er, what is your job?

Do you mean AWOL? Because I don't think you mean a-wall. (and unfortunately, neither is quite appropriate for the situation)

Nevermind... I'm not even going to discuss it. Adam, you can delete this thread.

It's nice to see other people emulate my style of posting.

Heh, endless hours of entertainment brought to you by UD. smile

Ash:
You need to learn to let stuff roll off your shoulders more, that or open up a myspace/livejournal page.

Hope it is alright to add to the discussion but it always amazes me how random chance always has us meeting people from years ago at anytime! I actualy went to do some shopping too yesterday morning and saw this girl I had not seen since school!

I don't think you should really care anyway what he thought of your job/lifestyle. He might have meant nothing by that anyway because some people problably find it hard to know what to talk about.

Which is a euphemistic way of saying 'blog it', no?

Besides, Ash, the guy may have been a dick, but the things he said are hardly anything worth throwing a fit over, are they?

I once did an interview for something and it was shown as part of a presentation I was at. Someone afterwards met me and said to me, "Wow, you don't look quite as fat as you do on screen." Not... quite... as... fat. Thanks. It was meant as a compliment, I think. But it didn't feel like one.

But, hey, what the hell.

Ashley, I don't know you at all and know little of your background but, just from your posts, you do seem to have a slight case of small-town-itis. Where everyone talks about everyone else. And you let it get under your skin.

Well, feck 'em. Do what you want to do and be as great as you can be. And, you know what? You probably are great.

Ash, I know the feeling: If I ever bump into anyone from my past, it's always some asshole I could've stood to have never scene again; never any of the cute, preppy chicks I had crushes on.

Thing is, you're right: Those assholes never move on, they never change, while the people who AREN'T assholes do. Move on, I mean.

So, yeah, I guess that's the best advice I can give: Just move on, don't let it get you down. People like that have never been worth your trouble.

And me, I could stand to move on, too. I'm still stuck in my hometown...hopefully that'll change once I begin my career, but the economy, job market, etc., isn't looking too good, not that we need to be reminded.

I mean, grad students from prestigious universities getting stuck working check-out lines at a grocery store or department store? Not actually too uncommon of a case these days, actually, because I know quite a few of 'em, and you really don't have anything to be ashamed of.

Grad students from prestigious universities with degrees in what?

Oh, you know: Political Science, Economics, that type of stuff.

Hell, I've known computer science grad students and even a lawyer who've taken a significant paycut in the long run, not just polysci and the like.

Ain't it always the way...

Here's some perspective: Calling someone fat and dumb says more about the person saying it than anything else.
