I guess bigotry will always be a problem, but damn... I feel sorry for these kids to have such idiotic parents! Plus, who the hell do they think they're trying to fool?! Clearly they're racist and stupid (the two often go together)...

Ok, I'm sorry, but naming your kid that is just an accident waiting to happen. What happens when he's in school and has Jewish classmates?

These children are going to be beat on relentlessly by their classmates.  Too bad the same can't be said for their monstrous parents.

"Jesus! Why can't you be good like your brother Hitler!?"

In all seriousness, what a dumbass move. They really wanted to have a kid with a unique name, so they name him after Hitler? Way to go, you guys! What a bunch of f---ing wizards you are.

I think the worst part is that they are genuinely surprised about the torrential downpour of negative input. That's like kicking a sleeping bear in the face and being surprised that you got mauled. "Shit, man, I didn't see them thar claws! Ah cayan't be held 'sponsible fo' mah actions!"

edit: AND, for more exciting news from NJ (I'm beginning to see why NJ is called the shithole of the US), apparently these days in the Garden State you go to jail, if you try to pay your traffic violation...

Adolf's last name was originally Schickelgruber. I had always wondered why Larry and Curly called Moe "Schickelgruber" when he played Hitler.

I have actually met someone named Adolf; he owned a gas station near my house. It was an Amoco, which I believe no longer exists.

I probably should research Adolf Hitler some day - his mind is interesting, much like the minds' of other serial killers, like Ted Bundy. Very intelligent, very hostile. The worst serial killer I've ever read about is fictional (fortunately), and he would copy (not clone) his victims and experiment on the copies until he determined every weakness and fear. Refer to The Collapsium for more disturbing details.

Nitpicky correction: his father, Alois, originally had Schickelgruber as last name, but changed it to Hitler at the age of 40. Adolf himself never bore the name Schickelgruber, since he was born after that time.

Funny how quickly a story like this spreads, as this is now the third place I've heard about this story.

the world would be a much cheerier place if we all adopted a Mel Brooks outlook on race relations...

The naming convention was already borderline, but then I read about their home being "festooned with a swastika in every room", that Pops "wears boots that once belonged to a Nazi soldier", and that he "denies the Holocaust occurred."

Yeah, Nazi sympathizer to the extreme.

Bernhardt Dec 17, 2008 (edited Dec 17, 2008)

Adolf was a perfectly acceptable name before some dictator with that name came and fucked a whole bunch of people over, but still, that shouldn't make a name UNHOLY.

Dude, it's like, some asshole by a certain name fucks people over majorly, and then suddenly, we're not allowed to give our kids the same name as that guy?!

Imagine if it was that we couldn't name our kids "Timothy," after that whole Oklahoma bombing tragedy? Timothy is damn well common name, and dates back in origin to the Biblical ages.

Or "Dylan" or "Eric" just because of the two gunners from Columbine? Dylan is a modern name, but Eric, people been naming their kids Eric for years!

Or "Joseph" just because of Stalin? That's another common, Biblical era name...

I mean, true, Adolf isn't really all that common of a name, let alone Biblical in origin, but still...! We can't let ONE PERSON ruin a name!

...

But yeah, after that, it's easy to tell they're Nazi sympathizers, after the whole mention of the Swastika. It's like, WTF do they THINK they're DOING?! Do they WANT people to come burning their house down or running them out of town?!

[sarcasm]

Ehh, who knows. Maybe they're just closet rockstars, trying to be all controversial-like, and getting their Guitar Hero on too much?

[/sarcasm]

P.S. If it's any consolation, I will NOT be naming any of my kids Kim Jong-Il any time soon...even if they're Asian.

Adolf actually isn't that uncommon in German-speaking countries even today, although I think its kind of old-sounding... like Reginald or something in English.

I think the controversy here isn't that they named the kid Adolf, but rather Adolf HITLER.

To go along with siblings Aryan Nation, Hinler, etc etc.

The truly unfortunate thing is that, because of this press attention, the number of children named Adolf Hitler Suchandsuch will probably INCREASE next year.

I bet the legal battles that will ensue will be entertaining.

It's accidental, but come on! The first thing you learn in any gun training is NEVER point it at anyone (unless you intend to shot them of course)...

and uh... who keeps guns in their sofa? Do they live in such a dangerous place, or are they paranoid?

terrible...

New Jersey is not really a hick state, at least the northern part isn't. And Pennsylvania makes Jersey look like Paris, France by comparison.
If you've ever been to Englewood, Saddle River, Ridgewood, Oradell, Teaneck, Paramus, etc. you'll see a lot of wealthy neighborhoods.

The parents in this story are not what i'd call a totally accurate representation of the Garden State, especially being that it's so close to New York City.

Oh yeah and the Angry VG Nerd is from NJ, too! (Representin', What-What!!)
