I have a bad sense of smell and no one to impress, so I just go with basic hygiene. Not that I'd know where to start if I was the cologne-type...

I'm a quasi-fashion sensed guy but I can't find a scent right for me.

As a Christmas gift, I got a bottle of Burberry, which I've been quite entranced with.  Burberry themselves describe it as a "floral, fruity fragrance - the fresh and sensual scent includes top notes of black currant, green apple, peach and marigold."  I would say the smell of marigold is most predominant, but those with a keen sense of smell can certainly make out the rest of the proposed scents.  Before that, I was a regular user of Cool Water - described as "a sharp, flowery fragrance, a blend of citrus, pineapple, and woody notes, and accompanied by the scent of the pure ocean air."  For a while there, Cool Water was my signature scent.

Back in my school days, using perfume was like a daily ritual - could never leave the house without some on me.  Never a full, direct spray, though - I've always done the "shoot in the air, let the mist fall on me" method.  I've got a pretty strong sense of smell, and breathing a full shot on me all day would irritate me to no end - not to mention everyone else.  Hey, there's something to be said for subtlety, right?

Nowadays, I'll put on perfume if I remember to.  More often than not, I'm running out the door, and it's the last thing I'll forget to do.

As far as men's cologne, I generally like the muskier-scented ones.  Ralph Lauren's Classic Polo, Christian Dior's Fahrenheit, and Chanel's Pour Monsieur.  I really don't take to the "sweet", "floral," or even "spicy" scented fragrances, like Polo Sport, Cool Water for Men, and CK1.  Sorry guys, if you're going to use cologne, a man's got to smell like a man all the way.  ;)

I've been using Armani's Acqua Di Gio everyday for years now. I also like Polo Blue and (the much cheaper) Ferrari Black. I find that most men don't use cologne, or use those cheap Axe-like body spray.

The purpose of emitting those artificial scents is to attract a mate. I can do that without artificial scents, therefore, they are of no use to me. (There is some disagreement as to whether humans emit sex pheromones, which may explain why cologne/perfume is on the market. Of course, it would probably be there anyway, since we seem to enjoy buying things we don't actually need. However, some people may have malodorous skin, or fear water, so they would benefit from such products.)

If I'm feeling fancy, Acqua Di Gio.  Otherwise, most days I just smell like my Old Spice Aqua Reef body wash.

I generally forget to put it on during daily routines, so special occasions it is.

Currently have Chrome by Azzaro onhand, and I like the aqua/light scent.

I find it very annoying when either gender is "over perfumed", so my approach is to go minimal.

I don't use anything but deoderant. Even though a few girls I've been interested in or dated have told me they like it and I should wear some, I just can't do it. I don't like the stuff. Will probably never wear it. I like a select few fragrances I've smelled on the ladies, but by and large I'm not a big fan. I certainly agree with those before me who have said that "over perfumed" is a huge turn off. And in my experience, a majority of those do it because they are smokers, which is an even bigger turn off.

Occasionally. More like "scent." Those relatively cheap but relatively nice-smelling sprays that you usually get when relatives or co-workers can't think of anything else to give you.

I've tried Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea Eau de Parfum. I'm a sucker for almost anything green tea. Unfortunately, I don't think it works so well here, nor does the scent on the Green Tea lotion.

I have to admit I first read that as "attract a MALE." ^_~

Smelling like a man is one thing (which is easily accomplished by NOT wearing any cologne!) but smelling over-musked is too over the top, like shouting that you're all brawn and no brain.  Having a complicated scent with subtleties at least shows a little dimension.

Don't use perfume too often.
But I like Bath and Body works's stuff.

Read somewhere that when women smelled Old spice, it reminded them of their fathers, grandfathers, etc.
So do you really want to smell like your dad?

Now that is an interesting question as I have quite a bit of interest in perfumes.

I wear perfume daily, the large selection helps provide different options for different occasions and moods.

Perfume selection is one of the most tedious tasks due to the huge selections available, the changing nature of perfume smells (top notes to mid notes to base notes), and the tendency of our noses to lose the ability to differentiate between fragrances after sampling a few at a store.

To reduce the headache, finding out who is the perfumer (and not the perfume company) behind a scent you've liked will help you zero in quickly on other perfumes by the same perfumer that have a high likely hood of impressing you as well. For me, usually Jean Claude Ellena's work impresses me as three from the above list are made by him.

I didn't used to wear cologne, but a year ago or so, I read an article about cologne that led me to try a few.  This article recommended a few scents that it said were classic but fashionable: Obsession by Calvin Klein, Acqua de Gio by Giorgio Armani, and Dolce & Gabbana Pour Homme.  After checking those three out, I settled on the D&G.  I use it daily, and I love it.

Same here. A lot of dudes I know like to use it, and even a lot of dudes I don't know, since it's supposedly women's favorite scent on men...which means I often smell the scent of it wafting through the air even if I'm not wearing it.

To break up the monotony, I sometimes use CK One. I actually used to wear it back in high school, so it has a nostalgic value to me, besides just smelling good.

I was at Macy's last night, looking for a cologne gift for a new gentleman in my life, when this thread tugged at the corner of my memory.  A quick thread search right then and there led me to the Acqua Di Gio counter, and its inevitable purchase.

It's a lovely scent, but I also agree with Crash -- D&G's Pour Homme smells really nice, too.

If it means anything, I was downtown the other day shopping, and this girl was beside me in this one store and she leaned over to tell me that I smelled terrific, and asked what I had used. I had to tell her that it's my normal smell and that I didn't even shower that morning. I have no idea if that is a good or bad thing.

I'm not the poncy get-up kind of guy. I hate wearing suits of any kind, and unless it's for a job, casual is the way to go. As such I don't usually use cologne.

On the ladies, I don't mind it, so long as they're f---ing smart about it. I used to have this old bat come into my Second Cup every morning just drenched in the stuff. Strong enough to knock out an elephant. Jesus, I hate that.

It's supposed to be used as a subtle accent, and I'd prefer it if you didn't fumigate my face with it, ladies.

I tried out a sample of Gucci by Gucci for men about a month ago, and my girlfriend really liked it.  So now I have a new scent to complement the D&G.

A year later and I still have no problems attracting the opposite sex without auxiliary chemicals. Maybe if I were really fat then I'd have to wear it, to mask the urine smell. I'm saying that, because, a woman at work today told me that really fat people smell like urine.

Speaking of cologne/perfume, am I the only one that finds it odd that they are behind the counter at my local Wal Mart? I can understand tobacco being behind the counter but I guess with fragrances not being cheap they're pretty pocketable items eh?

I just started wearing Acqua Di Gio for special occasions and I'm quite fond of it.

This old thread being brought back to life (at least somewhat), I may throw in my thoughts. I have three EdTs in my closet. One is cheaper and meant pretty much exclusively for work where it doesn't matter so much. That would be Active water by Sergio Tacchini. A bit too sportsy for my liking, but as I said, it's perfectly fine for work.

The two favorites of mine are Acqua di gio by Armani (surprise!) and Pour homme II by Gucci. The former is more of a scent for general use. That's the one I use when I'm going to the university, out with people or whatever I come up with. Gucci is heavier and more full-bodied, a scent you need to be careful with. Yet I like it more, and it's for more special occasions. Some other I like are Hypnôse by Lancôme and Fahrenheit 32 by Dior.

I prefer subtlety over overuse. Makes my eyes roll in their sockets when someone has used a double or triple dose and can be sensed a mile away.
