Is it the greatest comic book series of all time? No. However, it is *one* of the greatest series of all time. Personally, I would rank Action Comics as the greatest comic books series of all time, because it revolutionized a genre and gave birth to the superhero. Although Watchmen was also revolutionary in its own right. It was dark, deep, and beautiful. I wonder if the movie will do it justice? I haven't read comic books in ages. I wonder how the industry is doing? I always liked the Indy stuff more... oh, and nothing personal, but I never really cared for manga. I much prefer traditional comics, and I like color smile

Preacher is hands down one of my favorites. I keep telling Avatar to read it, and I mentioned it to some other folks around here, too.

Watchmen, though? One of the best, you're right. Loved it utterly.

I actually remember next to nothing about Watchmen, except that I adored it at the time and it blew me away. I have never revisited it. The film trailer looks odd to me and doesn't fit with my nostalgia-tinted memory of the book but it still looks really interesting and I'll definitely be seeing it if they sort out their distribution lawsuit differences.

The fact that it looks different to just about any superhero movie out there would be enough to draw me in even if I hadn't read the book.

I don't know if Avatar timed his post to coincide with the news but apparently the legal differences have been all but settled.

Finally saw the 2009 movie adaptation of Watchmen, and HOLY SHIT did it ever kick my ass...I had to watch it twice!

I like how Rorschach is relatively short of stature, and a Ginger, but he's a damn good fighter! Still trying to figure out how the ink blotches form on his mask; and all that time, I thought that was actually his face and superpower. Oh yeah, and the gruff voice and overall disposition make him a very endearing character in my perception, as well. Rather liked his whole gritty subplot.

I like how Dr. Manhattan is so detached from humanity, and otherwise always very pensive; I like the stylish, spikey glass globe/clock he creates/excavates on Mars. Still, the guy liked being nekkid too much; didn't need to see his nekkid schlong swinging back and forth so subtly, when we saw his front side...I mean, in a few shots, they at least had the decency to make him wear a speedo...geez...

The Comedian is an asshole, gun-toting maniac, who's a denunciation - a parody - of the savagery of the human condition. Underneath the savagery, he's actually also pretty profound, which Rorschach had to point out; definitely liked the series of scenes which focused on his interactions with each of the characters, one-on-one.

Ozymandias is very classy. I also like how he plays Tears for Fears "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" over the PA in his lobby. Got that song stuck in my head now. I like how he's a modern conqueror...

Silk Spectre II (the successor to her mother) - I like to call her "Silky" - is a cute, if not sexy Jennifer Garner look-alike; reminds me of one of my previous girlfriends; which also reminds me: I'm glad how they used relatively unknown, unexposed, if not first-time actors, who all still ended up doing a great job.

All between everything, Nite Owl II's the voice of reason, and essentially the glue keeping everybody together. Also like how he's kind of nerdy, but still chivalrous, but I can't help feeling that in the context of the movie, he also has a less-than-noble, if not subtle, lust for Silky.

Oh yeah, and the sex scenes between Silky, and Nite's flabby body? SUCH A NERD FANTASY!

What I like most, is that they're all essentially just human, aside from Dr. Manhattan; I guess you could say the others are superhuman, as they're able to easily punch walls through stone, and take more punishment than the average human, but they're essentially just really damn good martial artists.

Oh yeah, also liked the historical fiction bits, involving the Vietnam War, and the Cold War, and Nixon still being president, and how it's based in an alternate timeline/history.

...

My question to, is, who do you think is the more iconic, recognizable hero? Rorschach, or Dr. Manhattan? The other character's costumes are pretty formulaic, but when was the last time you saw you a character with an inkblot for a face, or a guy whose entire body glowed blue?

No, seriously, I like how he's short of stature, but he really kicks ass!

I'm not very tall myself, and it's like, I need role-models that speak to people of my own height!

*sigh*

I type all that I did in my previous post, and all you pick out to respond to is something that's not even intended to be discriminatory? Geez...high-strung...

I'd suggest reading the comic if you haven't yet, it's better. Atleast was to me.

Still, I wonder what Moore would think about the movie, if he would just stop being what he is and accept that translations from comics to movies do change things a bit.

I haven't read a good comic series in a long time...
I really enjoyed Watchmen, The Golden Age, The Dark Knight Returns, Heart of Empire (the Legacy of Luther Arkwright), Bone, Kingdom Come, Liberty Meadows... can anyone recommend a series along those lines (that is, one that's philosophical, very-well written, makes you think, or simply is just enjoyable and charming?)

I know... I should read Preacher smile
Never been a big Ennis fan though...
