I'm currently looking for game music with sax arrangements in them, like most O'Bits Project releases do...does anyone have recommendations?

I suppose Chrono Trigger: Brink of Time is too obvious?

I'll second Chrono Trigger The Brink of Time, what a great CD!  Check out a few of the old Kukeiha Club albums as well.. "Kukeiha Club" itself, HOPE, Best Vol.1, and Best Vol.2.  A lot of stuff by Norihiko Hibino, namely Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty Soundtrack 2: The Other Side, AKASHI, and The Outer Rim.  Every CD by A.P.J. (a couple Castlevania arrangements can be found on their Labyrinthos album) and the Gyakuten Saiban Jazz CD, for sure.  Moonlit Shadow by Mitsuda and Higashino, Perfect Selection Sound Racing History, ROCKMAN X ALPH-LYLA with Toshiaki Otsubo, and the first Gran Turismo Original Game Soundtrack all come to mind as well.

I'm actually a huge O'bits fan myself and trust me, if you like the sax on those CDs, check out a band called BeatNuts.  Mitsuru Kanekuni is their sax player and he's also the dude who played sax on those O'bits CDs.  Their newest album POWER ZONE is absolutely phenomenal and you can hear samples of it at their MySpace page.

I believe the F-Zero album has a saxophone in pretty much every track.

The saxophone is an amazing instrument. I dedicated a lot of my teens to exploring its versatility and was amazed that it's even compatible with Bach with the right style. However, most composers just think it is a jazz instrument (or, worse, smooth jazz instrument) so use it sparingly or in a completely clichéd way. Unfortunately, most game music just adheres to stereotypes and sometimes just abuses the instrument (cases in point -- HD Remix's Sexy Trunks, FFVIII's Compression of Time).

Fortunately, as Miker said, Norihiko Hibino is an excellent saxophonist. He has used the instrument in a mature and interesting way in so many works. I love the way he has used it throughout the Metal Gear Solid series. I'm also fond of his emotional improvisation on Metal Gear Anniversary, his bossa-nova style on Sekaiju Live Music and Cuffy's Jukebox, and his free improvisations on The Outer Rim and No More Heroes Dark Side. I'd love him to use it in some of his classically-oriented works too.

My memory is foggy, but I can't think of any other game music works that used the saxophone in a way that really impressed me. I found Warlock Battle on Chrono Trigger: The Brink of Time pretty cool, but nobody seems to agree on SEMO at least. Might check out that O'bits album though! Thanks for the recommendation.

The only album I can think of where the sax stood out (to me) was ROCKMAN X ALPH-LYLA with Toshiaki Otsubo. The whole album is well done in my opinion but I eventually did sell it off since I didn't listen to it that much.

I got my recent VGM World order from Kahori yesterday and I just have to add Norihiko Hibino's Now I'm Here to Hear... to this list.  If you dig jazz with lots of sax, pick this CD up immediately.  And a little trivia.. it was released over a year before Z.O.E. and MGS2!  His oldest CD release, according to VGMdb anyway.  There might be some older stuff out there, and let me tell you, after hearing NIH2H, I'm definitely gonna make it my mission to find out for sure!

Yeah, it's sublime. As I said earlier, sexy yet not sleazy! I don't think it's his earliest release those. There's a bunch of solo albums mentioned in his Squaremusic discography and SEMO biography that have barely nothing known about them. I think the earliest is Voices from Heaven (1998) then it was Now I'm Here to Hear (2000), Sharp Sounds (2001), I Surrender All (2003), Akashi (2005), and The Outer Rim (2008).
