my brother created an account for me on the Best Buy employee auction site, and currently there are 2 available 60gig ps3 consoles (the first gen, completely backwards compatable ones).. aside from the smaller hard drive, were there any other quirks or changes made that should make me not choose the older one. I know the new ones still play ps1 games, but is there any improvement in the upgrading between first and current generations that i would be missing out on??

for the record, my 6-year old fatty ps2 is still working perfectly (although i'm on the 3rd set of controllers thanks to the bunnies).

As far as I know, the only difference is with the backwards compatibility. Sony hasn't fooled around with the hardware nearly as much as Microsoft has (with the 360).

So so so envious if you can get a 60 gig for a decent price.  That's the only model that I'll settle for if I ever get a PS3.

"The 40 GB, 80 GB (2008), and 160 GB models have two USB ports instead of the four USB ports on other models, and do not include multiple flash card readers, SACD support, or any backwards compatibility with PlayStation 2 games."

(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playstatio … igurations )

Sounds to me like it's worthwhile to seek out a 60 gigger if you can.

shit,, someone used the buy-now on both of them... ($377.99)
they're tested working returns from best-buys main warehouse in TX, but sometimes theyre missing cables or manuals.
a few are listed every month or so, i guess i should grab the buy-now next time.

I take it they don't make the 60GB PS3s anymore?
