Wondering how many of us use the data collecting program Last.fm to track your music listening habits (formerly known as Audioscrobbler). If so, do you also use the iPod Scrobbler or any other portable music scrobbler?

Does anyone ever experience problems using the iPod Scrobbler with Windows/PC? I find that it just doesn't want to work anymore and was wondering if anyone else has that problem...

Yes I use both

iSproggler works perfectly with my iPod, I have periodic problems but nothing that isn't easily resolved.  I recommend reading the Instructions posted on the user group, they will fix any problem you have.

I posted a bit about music social networks in another thread a while back, hoping to find an alternative to Last.fm, actually.  Last.fm is good for what it does, but I would much prefer a service that syncs to my media player's playlists and track ratings, as those are much more indicative of my music tastes and would make sharing music with others a lot more fun.

I'd still love to hear any suggestions for that sort of service if any are out there. smile  Apparently iLike lets you sync playlists but their plugin is only for iTunes (blech) and MS Media Center (more blech).

What's the point of just tracking your playlists, that doesn't really show trends over time does it?  And last.fm has a "Loved Tracks" thing, which is sort of a rating, just not on a sliding scale, but for rating anyway can't you just use your current software to track it?  Again, I don't think that's something that needs to be tracked as a trend...?  I mean if you're more interested in showing your current taste why not just set last.fm to show last 7 days instead of last 12 months.  I like the statistical information you can get from last.fm.

There are some nifty apps at http://build.last.fm for showing trends and whatnot that I find interesting.

jb, my point is I'm not interested in tracking and I'm not interested in showing trends over time.  I don't need a web service to tell me what I've been listening to.  I'm interested in showing and sharing which tracks I really like, which is what syncing ratings and playlists would be better at for me.  For new signups especially, just showing which tracks have been played most frequently isn't necessarily indicative of what their real favorites are.

For example I've been listening to Symphony Ys 21st Century a good bit over the past couple weeks as it's a new acquisition, but it doesn't hold a candle to Symphony Ys '95, which I'd much rather encourage people to listen to but haven't played as much myself recently cause it's been in my collection forever.

I used Last.fm for a while and though it was fine for showing which tracks I'd been listening to recently, the overall favorites that it had mapped weren't the ones I would most want to share and recommend to other people in reality.
