Aside from living and breathing Ape Escape 3 right now, I've been heavily getting into the mo-town scene.  Rick James, Lionel Richie, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Brothers, Smokey Robinson, The Supremes.... I've been going nuts snatching up their CDs and compilation sets.

The Silent Hill 4 OST has been a constant in my car stereo, too.   I do find what others have said to be largely true; there is more of an 'album' feel to the score; more beats, more structure - not quite as industrial and dissonant as past games, which does make for a more coherent listening experience overall.  In that sense, too, it feels a little less associated to what we've come to feel what Silent Hill music should be, and does seem to adhere to Yamaoka's more alternative-rock/grunge/ambient other half.  Silent Hill 2 still remains to be my favorite score in the series, but SH4 takes a close second.

I've run both Nightwish's Once and Oceanborn into the ground by now, so I guess I'll crack open that Wishmaster CD I got for Christmas.  And Guitar Hero has gotten me into Judas Priest; their British Steel album is mucho-awesome.

Jeremy Soule's "Guild Wars" soundtrack. Surprisingly good...

I'm also regretting not getting the "Tales of the Abyss" streamrip when I had the chance because now no one is seeding it.

In addition, I can't help but pull out the Mozart when I'm feeling depressed. He never ceases to cheer me up...

BAMAToNE Jan 23, 2006

I've been really into the Age of Empires III OST. I was quite surprised, too. I think I queued it up just for lack of anything else to listen to at the moment. It's tremendous background music. I wish some of the themes were a little longer, though.

Yuvraj Jan 23, 2006

Well CD's stacked up and listened to last few days:

Isley Bro's - Between the Sheets (hehe, coincidence. 'cheeeeesy lover.... '^_^)
Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask
Kanye West - Late Registration
Yoko Kanno - Genesis of Aquarion OST 2
The Roots - Live/Phrenology
Tatsuhiko Asano - In the wake of Doshin the GIANT/Genny Hanniver
Loreena McKennitt - The Book of Secrets
Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan - Greatest Hits of, vol.2

Genny Hanniver and Mouse and the Mask seem to dominate the cd player.

If you're into club-type music as well then I recommend the "Motown Remixed" compilation if you don't have it already.  It has a couple nice Jackson 5 remixes, a sweet breaks remix of "Tears of a Clown" and several other goodies.  Got it for ten bucks from Amazon.

Msia Jan 23, 2006 (edited Jan 23, 2006)

Mo-town ftw.  I'd also reccommend the Ray OST from last year.  I just caught the movie yesterday on HBO and while it isnt exactly "mo-town", you can't go wrong with the Genius himself.
Also, I'd suggest the Four Tops, Temptations, etc.

GoldfishX Jan 23, 2006

This thread caught me completely ill-prepared...I've been pretty much all over the place.

Been digging into Wild Arms 4's music pretty hard at work. Like I said in a previous thread, a new composer (Masato Koudo) was given about 2 discs worth of material to fill and about half of that left a negative impression on me whenever it came up (mostly failed attempts at peaceful and darkish-ambient themes). Thankfully, his other tracks, plus Naruke's usual style and the new stuff by Nobuyuki Shimizu and (especially) Ryuta Suzuki make the rest of the OST a strong listen. Suzuki's "Manifestation from Hell" and "Howling at An Unstoppable Fate" have been on constant play for awhile now. If I had my pick, Suzuki and Naruke would be handling Wild Arms 5...

Others:

Ar Tonelico
DDS: Integral
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness OST
Magical Bringer KORONA True OST
Ridger Racers, plus the occasional original "Rare Hero" itch.
The usual Galaxy Angel mind-melding.
Guilty Gear Collection Disc 8
Ys Oath of Felghana
And oddly enough, some old (and new) wrestling themes...Kurt Angle's music sounds great on CD (the guitar parts are normally drowned out by the crowd chanting, "You suck!"). And I always wanted the themes for Bret Hart, Million Dollar Man and Razor Ramon anyway...

SonicPanda Jan 24, 2006

Rearranging and archiving my computer's playlist, mostly. Tired of those tracks, in the mood for these, you know. Tired of Klonoa and Wild Arms, letting Telos and Jumping Flash! back in.

Also, just found a full rip of the original Spyro game at Galbadia, which is nice and should also make SquareTex quite happy.

Schala Jan 24, 2006

Currently have the latest Initial D Fourth Stage vocal collection in my car CD player. I've also been soaking up a bit of Ayumi Hamasaki, although only a few of her songs have really caught my attention so far. Otherwise, I've been going through an eclectic mix -- I've decided to finally crack open all the game, anime, and other CDs that have been languishing on my shelf. Oooh...I just realized I still have Tatu's second Russian CD on my desk somewhere...

Oh, and then there's Enya's latest CD, Amarantine. I don't like it so much, but I admittedly haven't given it much of a chance yet.

Yeah this is the most ignorant thing I've read in a while on these forums.

*sigh* Seems like another one of those negative and sarcastic posts of yours. A nice exhibition of shrivelled up logic and nuance you got there. hmm

I have to admit that I was somewhat disappointed with what I heard on the Broken Thunder soundtrack.  I was expecting more of what I heard in the rearrangements (I still love the arranged "Fire Leo" track).  But it has grown on me, and listen to it often now.  My favorite tracks are "Moon of Mind", "Steel of Destiny -Cry Sky-", "Moon of Black Rain", and "Cyber Cave -Sunset Clouds-".  I also like the alternate "Electric Beast Jungle".

The Under Defeat soundtrack is getting some heavy playtime, too.  "Can't Come Back?" has already found a place in my all-time favorites list; it's just so sexy.

I've also found myself listening to Guilty Gear XX Original Soundtrack again.  I put it aside for a while and forgot how much I liked "Feel a Fear", "Burly Heart", "Bloodstained Lineage", and "Haven't You Got Eyes In Your Head?".

XLord007 Jan 24, 2006

Right now, the Enthusia OST.  Two hours from now?  I have no idea.

mr. s Jan 24, 2006

- Joe Satriani - Engines of Creation - The title track is one smooth tune. Check it out on Itunes.
- Dream Theater - Octavarium
- An Evening with Jordan Rudess and John Petrucci
- Kansas - The Wall (Live version I DL from Itunes)
- Styx - A Salty Dog ( a cover they recently did)
- Barramundi Vol. 2 - Dreamtime Planet. (Got it for $1....EXTREMELY PLEASED)
- Hedwig and the Angry Inch Soundtrack - Wicked Little Town (both versions)

I've got taste Angie, so go try some of these out on I-Tunes. cool

Godai Jan 24, 2006

Lately, I've only been listening to Akira Yamaoka's "iFUTURELIST".  Also been listening to some classic prog, one of King Crimson's live albums, "CIRKUS".  Oh and some Porcupine Tree. smile

I don't, but immediately placed an order after hearing a few samples.  In addition, I also grabbed the four exclusive mixes found on the iTunes album version: Jiimmy Ruffin's What Becomes of The Brokenhearted (Mocean Worker Remix), Four Tops' Reach Out, I'll Be There (Montez Payton & Taurus Braxton Remix), Martha Reeves & The Vandellas' Love Is Like A Heatwave (Noizetrip Mix), and Marvin Gaye's Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing. (The Rurals Cool Mix)

I'm also looking into the Ray Soundtrack, Msia, which my dad actually has -- along with several other Charles albums.  And Mike, I'll give those other songs a listen on iTunes as well.  Thanks!

TerraEpon Jan 25, 2006

ignorant? negative and sarcastic?

No. It's just...well there's so MUCH to listen to. Does everyone else really not just listen to something once, and put it aside for a couple weeks? I just want to know, what do people normally do?

My routine is, when I buy a CD, is to listen once, put it in the pile, and listen two weeks later. Then I skip a month and listen to all the bunch from the previous by one month. So I get everything three times, and still have plenty of time to discover all the new music out there. Sure there's times when a specific song/track hits me, but I still find it very easy to have music wear out its welcome...

The Joe Satriani song is the only one I'd ask you to spend your hard earned dollar on. I listened to that one track last night for about an hour while studying.

Here's a quick link to it: Track 11 is the only track worth listening to.

Also, I've been wanting to pull these cds out and listen to them, but I don't want flashbacks of my ex. I stumbled upon this group while we were dating. They're called Moodfood..you heard of them? They're electronica style. Some tunes are just very relaxed, others are very upbeat dance tunes. I love both of these albums. Anyway...

This is one particular track I used to listen to while cruising around Atlanta.

You listen to something once and then put it aside for weeks.....? If you listen to a new album only once, you can hardly understand what is in it. Unless you are already kind of familiar with that album or...the cd is just plain bland. This sounds to me like you are constantly looking for new music and not appreciating what you have at the moment (it sounds like, Im not inferring).
I don't apply any formula to how often I listen to a particular cd, but if I buy a new cd, and listen to it once, and shelve for a few weeks it can mean that either the cd has made no impression or it's a cd Im already familiar with and of which know I want (for future listening). Ofcourse there are expections to this rule, some cd's might take months and months before you come to love it. These usually end up becoming absolute favorite's. Though that's another subject.

Either way, for me it is unimaginable that, if I love a cd, I won't put it on repeat 1 ^_^

I usually buy CDs in bursts.  I get around 5-10 albums at a time, but only once every other month or so.  I listen to each one once after I get them and then go back and replay the ones I liked the first time through.  I never put any albums on repeat.  I need variety and I don't know how people can stand listening to the same album multiple times in a row, no matter how good it is.

Only one track this night, from Suikoden :
Avertuneiro Antes Lance Mao ~The Battle Has Ended~ (Ending BGM)

Sad and magnificent.

*nods*

See, that behavior make a lot more sense to me.

Also, I do of course rip 'good' tracks to Mp3s and either listen on a whim, or just when they come up randomly (at over 10000 Mp3s now, and about 9000 of those are ripped from actual CDs)

Datschge Jan 25, 2006

Hm, my listing behavior changes far too often. The most listened to soundtrack as of late must be Tales of the Abyss, but now after going through it several times (mostly for making separate Sakuraba/Tamura playlists) and hearing the music in-game I'm pretty much fed up with it. Nevertheless I hope there'll finally be an actual soundtrack for it soon.

Currently I'm listening to Project Mu Best 35 after Teioh suggested it, it has some really nice pieces. Next are most likely even more not yet uncovered old school snes soundtracks by Norihiko Togashi.

Too involved for the way I listen to music...It's just if I like it, I listen to it. If it's something I feel like listening to multiple times, I listen multiple times. If I set myself on a schedule like that, listening to music becomes work...and that's the last thing I want to do. Generally I deal with the issue of quantity of music as it comes along (not like it's going to go away or disinitegrate on the disc or the hardrive). I'm planning on picking up a nice 60 GB mp3 player, for the side purpose of getting some of my lesser listened to albums (and ones I don't always think to put on) some playtime. Frankly though, I've been downloading more than I used to and I basically do it as a quality filter, so I know I'm only buying the albums I know I'm going to like. Probably saved me from buying 5-7 albums this past year I normally would have bought on the first day.

Though I agree with XLord on one thing: I can rarely listen to the same album twice in a row. I can't even think of one I've done that with in the past...5 years. 5 or 7 maybe (back when I didn't even have that many albums). But generally, it's not uncommon to listen to an album (or rather, a custom CD...generally in the car) I like multiple days in a row. I think I went one entire summer at work and never missed a day listening to Guilty Gear X: Heavy Rock Tracks and DDR 3rd Mix Megamix.

Weird, I had a dream the other night I was Mariah Carey's bodyguard tongue I have no fascination with her, and don't find her attractive....after she gained weight. I had a difficult time protecting her from one guy that evidently was a black belt..hehe

Daniel K Jan 26, 2006 (edited Jan 26, 2006)

Personally, my music listening follows no invariant rule. Sometimes I repeat one CD, sometimes I just plow forward and never look back for days in a row. But I have to admit, I just love it when those rare occasions occur when you find one of those magical albums that totally dominates your listening for days or even weeks. Happens very rarily, but it does happen....

Anyway, right now (meaning these last days), I strut my funky stuff to these albums:

Lustmord & Robert Rich - Stalker
Lustmord - The Place Where The Black Stars Hang
Depeche Mode - Playing The Angel
Toshiko Tasaki, Shoji Meguro & Tsukasa Masuko - Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers Original Soundtrack
Toshiko Tasaki, Masaki Kurokawa & Kenichi Tsuchiya - Persona 2 Batsu - Punitive Dance
Seiko Kobuchi - Demento Original Soundtrack

And practically every album by The Sisters Of Mercy, a band I haven't listened to for several years, but whose albums I dusted off and started playing again some time ago. Great stuff. I've also been listening to some albums by Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, and other classical Industrial/rock bands as I'm in the process of copying a lot of old CDs from my collection onto my computer.

For the near future, I have high hopes on Akira Yamaoka's new solo-album iFUTURELIST, which I'll get sometime next week.

dma Feb 15, 2006 (edited Feb 15, 2006)

I just recieved it yesterday and i really dig the Broken Thunder OST, marvelous follow-up to the Thunderforce V one.

Not a single bad track on it in my opinion. smile
