Yeah. AITD1 was a groundbreaking game in many regards, one of the first games big enough to come on a CD-ROM, one of the first games with extensive voice acting, one of the first with the "rendered backgrounds+3D polygonal character models" graphical style. Not to mention being the first real horror game (there were some horror-themed games before like The Uninvited and Sweet Home, but AITD1 was the first in the distinctive "survival horror" style as we know it). People think Resident Evil 1 was so groundbreaking, but all it did was rip off AITD's concept, adding better action, prettier graphics, and a dumber story (as well as some retarded gameplay elements like the limited carrying capacity, the ink ribbons, not being able to fight if you don't have a weapon, etc.).
I'm thinking AITD1 is a great choice for a game to remake. It has great atmosphere and a lot going for it, but by today's standards its too primitive and awkward to play. A competently executed remake would do wonders for it and introduce it to a new generation. I wonder if there'll be a trend to remake the original entries of horror game series, you know like they're remaking classical horror films all the time? Resident Evil and Siren have already had remakes, and Silent Hill is on the way, so why not the game that started it all?
