I've been meaning to post a topic about funny signs for a while, as there are quite a few I've seen that deserve a wider audience.

The first one can be seen at the local (well, not really local, but the closest and most often referred to) strip club "The Rhododendron." Typically and lovingly shortened to "The Rhodey" by the locals, the sign in front promptly states:

"We Accept AIG Bonus Checks."

Classic. Totally Classic.

Another one, originally seen in front of one of the local grocery before someone else caught on to why it was funny, didn't work, and replaced it:

"Tobacco and Cigarettes: Lowest Prices Allowed by Law and Lower."

That one always but a smile on my face.

What funny signs have you seen?

In the book, it's "You cannot..."
In the movie, it's "you shall not..."

I saw this on the web a while back. Haven't seen the real thing.

...which is grammatically wrong, and easily the thing that annoys me the most about that movie!

Alright, humor a non-native English speaker here.
What's grammatically wrong about "you shall not"!?

If "thou shalt not" is accepted grammar, then what's wrong with "you shall not"!?

"Shall" is one of those words with tricky usage rules. After looking into it myself, I'm still a bit confused (the tense and 1st- 2nd- 3rd- person uses are main factors). As it applies here, the word "will" should normally be used, but since we're dealing with "shall not," the negative of "shall," I think it fits the guidelines. It is showing a command and determination. Plus, anything Gandalf says can be considered lofty speech. The movie writers probably wanted his line to sound more forceful, so they went with four one-syllable words. Anyway, as an average American I only use the word "shall" when I'm trying to be funny.

Since I can't recall any funny signs, here's some that Google turned up:

(The Darth Vader one is my favorite, though his sign looks Photoshopped.)
