With Yahoo's archaic GeoCities web hosting service coming to an end, I'm left to begin searching for a new site that will support my collective inane ramblings and postings.  If you were to take a look at my web site right now (a most painful endeavor, I know), and cast an overview, what service do you think would suit me best?

The "dance" related stuff I'm thinking of doing away with, but I would love to keep the Thought Tank and Reviews onboard as an archive.  Primarily, I want something where I can continue my word entries as is, and do the occasional edit on them if need be.  Do you suppose a blogging service would be be best?  I'm a total newbie when in comes to the things, having never used one in my life.  I've heard WordPress and Blogger are pretty good?

As yours was the only recommendation thrown in the pot, I will wholeheartedly give LJ a try.  Thank ya, Tomcat.

You're more than welcome, Angela.

What is your username going to be?  (so that I can add you to my Friends-List)

I had a few issues with LiveJournal while I was there, mostly having to do with privacy. For instance, let's say you want to change the privacy settings for more than one post at a time. To do so, you'd have to have a paid account or fiddle with 3rd-party apps.

Also, LJ publishes an RSS feed of all the most recent public entries. Long story short, don't put up pictures on a public post: http://www.reputationdefenderblog.com/2 … ublic-eye/

Those were the only two issues I had while I was there (well, the themes were also ugly back then, but some of the newer ones are nice), so for basic blogging it should be fine.

I'm using WordPress right now and enjoy it more than LiveJournal. There are lots of different apps to play around with, and, thankfully, it has much better bulk editing tools. Dunno how well it works if you don't have web hosting of your own, though.

Well, I went ahead and opened up a LJ account.  Please don't mind the "Winter" theme I'm currently using; I just happened to find it the least offensive.  ;)  Here it is:

Thanks for the heads-up on the privacy issue, shdwrlm.  I suspect I won't be placing very many pictures up, though; like GeoCities, my LJ will mostly be information based.  As such, I've begun by front-loading much of my '09 movie reviews, the majority of which had been posted here on STC already.
