Toe Jam & Earl arranged soundtrack sounds promising

That's a good album if you're a fan of funk! Also check out Interstate '76.

Also, I've never touched a Warcraft game in my entire life, so I was wondering if that's something someone here would recommend listening to?

For many, the best and most memorable soundtrack in the series is Warcraft II. It is the most melodic one for sure, medieval-militaristic orchestral in style. The first Warcraft sounds similar, but not as developed. Warcraft III introduced new composers and went for a more atmospheric approach, blending orchestral, ethnic and some dark ambient. The World of Warcraft series features mainly ambient orchestral music, with some ethnic elements at times. More melodic are the tavern themes from that series, composed by David Arkenstone, which are actually really great celtic tunes IMO.

Interesting, I wasn't aware that David Arkenstone had composed for the Warcraft series.  It's not a soundtrack per se but I recommend his album "Return of the Guardians".  In fact I almost reviewed it here back in the day just because it's so much like a video game arranged album, with a nice mix of traditional instrumentals, ethnic, New Age, and contemporary elements.

What?! 36 replies, and not one mention of American McGee's Alice? What the f---'s going down up in this bitch? That's one of the best game soundtracks ever, time to recognize. Shiiiit, since Darkheim done gone split from STC, I've been hoisting this amazing album's banner all by myself. By a fluke of fate its still available, so go get it.

I take it that's the same McGee that did some of the maps in Doom and Doom II? If so "Bye Bye American Pie" from Doom II is named after him as well.

Despite what you said about Samus Aran in that one topic, I took your advice and purchased a copy of that Alice soundtrack as there was a dirt cheap copy available from the same individual that sold me a brand new copy of the Vectorman soundtrack for $5.

lol, people do remember the strangest things.

How is what I said about a game character related to recommendations I give on PC soundtracks, though?

Actually, I read through the "Strong female game characters that aren't completely sexed up?" topic for the first time earlier last week.

Let's just say that your opinions of Samus Aran, within the context of that particular topic, seemed kind of flimsy to me. So, I was kind of hesitant to give your recommendation a try, as your opinon on the 'Alice' soundtrack might have also been off the mark, but I eventually caved into curiosity.

I know I'm stepping on a lot of shoes with this, but, even though I love the Metroid series, I find Samus Aran overrated. I don't think she's a strong character simply because she has no character in most of the games. Shit, until I made it to the ending in the original Metroid, I thought I was just playing as some robot.

I'm glad you decided to go for the Alice soundtrack, though. If you don't like ambient/creepy music, it might not be your cup of tea, but now its too late to change that. big_smile I find it great, and I hope you will too.
