Hi peoples, so like for the last 18 months I have spent time and thousands of dollars assembling a vgm collection to be proud of. Then last night I hear this huge crash and the shelving which holds my collection up decides to f--- me in the ass and give way after 18 months of rigid sturdiness leaving my vgm collection laying on the floor in a mess. Thankfully no discs have been damaged at all out of the 200+. however I do have alot of broken and cracked cases which has pissed me off to no end, so I ask if anybody is willing to give or sell lots of single cases, double hinged cases, quad cd cases etc for a fair price or whatnot, I would be eternally greatful.
Please msg me if you are able to help me.

Aw, man! That sucks so hard. I'm sorry to hear it, man, but at least your CDs are OK!

That is indeed ten shades of suckitude.  A similar tale: I had one of my table legs give out a few months ago, which just so happened to have my Western Digital 1 TB HDD on it at the time.  The impact was serious enough that I could no longer access any of my eleven years worth of data.

Though the drive is kaput, I thank my lucky stars I still have the original files backed up to two other 500 GB Books.  (And yes, those rest on far sturdier foundations.)

sorry to hear, it's wise to invest in sturdy furniture surroundings.
discs are ok and that's what counts, hopefully covers/manuals weren't damaged.

Man, I'm sorry to hear about that. I've had some similar (albeit smaller) accidents myself. Totally sucks. sad

I'm afraid I don't have any cases to sell, but I'd love to know if there's a good place to find some. I've tried buying some from local retailers, but the quality was never quite what I wanted.

Sorry to hear that, man...

It's not any consolation, but I keep my collection in a chest/trunk, as opposed to a shelf. I fit about 200 albums into it. You can get one such trunk (they call it a "Foot Locker") at stores like Target for about $50, if you're in the U.S.

Otherwise, spare, empty CD cases, you can get 10 packs of those at stores like Best Buy or FYE; can't remember how much they want for those, though. Double cases are more rare, but quad cases are pretty much unheard of, as far as replacements go.

I'm always replacing CD cases, after they get scratched or cracked, when I have albums delivered from ordering online; I practically have to replace each and every case for every album I have to have delivered in the mail...

I decided to go digital years ago. I'd love to do it with everything, even myself!

If you want your CD collection to survive as long as possible, the first thing to do is to not purchase shelves designed for CDs. Buy shelves designed for books. They waste a lot of space, but they also don't topple. If possible, buy metal and glass shelves. I'd love to buy them but the prices are prohibitive.

It seems alot of the replacement case can be bought online, 2 giving me massive problems tho, quad CD cases white white trays (ff, chrono trigger boxsets etc) and the weird double extra chunky cases (biohazard 3, sonic adventure.) They seem to be the only one ones you cant order, or arent stocked.

No dice on those chunky cases, but there's an option for white trays on the standard jewel case page (S-8063):

I'm assuming the chunky cases you're talking about are the ones I've seen referred to as "Duo Cases" in Japan.

You can get a set of 3 from Amazon Japan for 690 yen, but the shipping is quite expensive and you'd need a middleman: http://www.amazon.co.jp/cd-duo%E3%82%B1 … lectronics

This place also has them for sale individually, but again, you'd probably need a middleman: http://diskunion.net/acc/ct/detail/ACS-477
They also have those white trays you want, so it might be worth the commission.

So, your hard drive literally crashed? Same thing happened to my external HD, though what brought it crashing to the ground was my tripping on the wire. Thankfully I had a lot of the MP3s on backup DVDs, though I still had to rerip around 100 CDs. >_<

at 89 yen to the dollar it's not worth buying anything from japan right now...

raynebc Oct 5, 2009

That sucks.  It's also the reason I store my CDs in boxes on a book case.
