Orchestral Game Concert 1 is the main culprit here. But there are many others. These are typically older cds that have very low volume. They cause no problems with my headphone system or PC speakers, because they seem to have sufficient power. I have a factory cd player in my car and it's pretty weak. I need to nearly max out the volume in order to hear OGC 1 and other older albums.

I have wavepad, but I'm not sure if that's the best program for increasing loudness, nor am I sure if I'm using it right. How should I 'remaster' an older album, to bring the volume up to normal levels?

Ugh, tell me about it.
If there's one thing that annoys me about using an Mp3 player, it's that you inevitably get a lot of music on there with wildly varying music levels, which can be a real pain when you use the random function as much as I do.

I know there's an option to equalize volume but it really doesn't work very well.
I also know iTunes allows you to adjust the default volume, but iTunes can go to hell.

So yeah, if anyone has any good tips on adjusting volume levels, I'm all ears too.

Why can I never want to do simple things? But I do think that's what I'm looking for, since it's different from normalization. I tried that in the past and I'll never try it again.

I actually owned an iPod for a few months. And I agree that iTunes should go to hell, preferably the portion with goblins that use software for dental floss.

Amazingu, MP3Gain is the solution you're looking for, as it adjust the volume of your MP3s no matter what you're playing them from, including portable players.  (The changes are always completely undoable, by the way.)

Apparently there's this media player software called Media Monkey that has MP3Gain functionality built into it and syncs with iPods as well.  I'm planning to give it a try and make the switch to it from J. River Media Center if it works as advertised.

Jodo, I'm afraid I haven't used any similar software for wav files, but Smeg's link seems to have it covered.
