The H1N1 "Swine" Flu...are you getting vaccinated for it?

The way I've always look at these things, is that if people simply practiced simple hygiene, like washing their hands, we wouldn't have to worry about this kind of thing.

I mean, what does it say about us, as a species, when we're so unwilling to do something so simple as washing our hands?

I don't think it's been proven either way that washing your hands is an effective defense against the spread of the influenza virus.

My buddy said he'll get that shot when pigs fly. He's gotta get it now since Swine Flu.

Looks like the only thing spreading here is longhairmike flu.

My wife and one of my daughters have had it so I couldn't have been more exposed to it and don't seem to have got it. I'm also a fairly nervous type when it comes to new vaccines - I have absolutely no trust in the pharmacueticals industry to put getting things right over getting richer. So, no, I won't be getting it.

There's really no need to prove anything in that regard, since it's an airborne virus. I always tell people to only breathe out.

my mom called me today.. my sister's husband has been diagnosed with H1N1. It knocked him on his ass at first but after a few days in the hospital and bombardment with treatment he's getting better. He's a healthy guy so i dont think it should be a problem. He works for the park district (in addition to his permanent "mr mom" job for their 3 kids,, [stop already Amy!!]), so he likely caught it there... little brats and their boogery noses...

on a side note,, last nite shana tried to blame a fart on me that came from the bunny cages. she didnt believe me until this morning when she heard it again when i was in the other room... no more apple slices for the buns for a while...

So my sister came down with this back on Tuesday, and a pretty nasty strain too (pregnant women are particularly vulnerable, or so I understand). It hasn't affected the baby but it's certainly made her uncomfortable, as the only medicine besides Tamiflu she can take is lousy, toothless Tylenol. Fortunately, she seems to be on the mend.

I have the flu as well, and though I don't think it's the Big Bad, my doctor is treating it as such (they hand out those funny masks to everyone who comes in with a fever nowadays), so no work 'til Thursday. Bleh. At least I can take ibuprofen as well.

Any other flubirds?
