Why are retro games so popular these days?
Because games "back then" were awesome! ...OK, maybe not all of them smile

but in the RPG front, there are good reasons why games such as Demon's Souls, Etrian Odyssey, Dragon Age Origins...etc... are all doing great and have glowing reviews. They're basically homages to classic games such as Might and Magic, Baldur's Gate, etc, and are just a blast to play!

Now Atlus, apparently is doing something Nintendo should have done years ago! They're making a homage to the classic Legend of Zelda! Of course, it's not exactly, LoZ, but hey, it's not hard to see where it gets its inspiration! Check it out:

it's going to be great...

I've been watching this one for awhile and was pleased as punch to see Atlus bringing it stateside.  I guess Demon's Souls did well enough to warrant another outing on the PS3 from From Software.  big_smile

Atlus is only localizing it, they have nothing to do with the game itself, because it was made by From Software, same as Demon's Souls.

Haven't played the game yet, it looks like a nice throwback to 8-bit Zelda, and from what reviews tell me, it's really nothing more than that.

I'll wait till it gets a bit cheaper I think...

Have you heard anything about Dragon Age: Origins? A lot of folks are saying it's a modern-day Baldur's Gate (a series I still need to check out). Judging from all the praise BG gets, that strikes me as very high acclaim. big_smile

3D Dot Heroes definitely looks like an old NES game, and the influences are worn on it's sleeve. I hope it turns out to be grand! smile

I heard Dragon Age Origins is amazing! I understand in many ways it's the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, although it's not officially a D&D licensed game (but who cares)... I've also heard the story is nice and dark, and quite nonlinear (yea)! Apparently the PC version is THE version to get. Lastly, it's also a time-sucking game, so get it only if you have lots of time on your hands (apparently some people do smile

The original Zelda is one of my all-time fav games... granted, it's hard if not impossible to recapture the magic of a bygone time in one's life, but I think this game has potential to be super-fun. I think Nintendo should have long-ago remade the original Zelda... turn it into something of a cartoon-like game, in the same mindset as Zeda Wind... only, better. Anyway, I think something like that would be totally amazing... but since Nintendo has not gone that path, I'm glad Atlus has decided to release this here! Also, it's slated for $39, which is relatively cheap for a brand new PS3 game.

cheers,
