I'm really not sure if this is some kind of joke or not, but . . . .

Personally, I'd prefer a Xenogears remake over anything else, but hot damn . . .

So they said nothing new about that which we already knew that was going to be coming eventually in all likelihood at some point in the future... just got a little bit closer.... wake me up in 5 years. =p
I for one don't see any solid confirmation in that article, just a (translated) quote by Akitoshi Kawazu saying that he wouldn't be the one who would handle such a remake. I would have thought SE would have made some kind of, uh, announcement about this if it was actually officially in the works.
Would be AWESOME if it was though. PS4 launch title c(:
There's another interview somewhere where Nomura says he would undertake it, but not until the Fabula Nova Crysalis or whatever (the Compilation of FFXIII, in other words) was done with. Considering the announced plans were to extend XIII over a decade, I wouldn't expect much in the short term.
That said, as someone who has played and re-played the original into double-digits, I'd much rather have a straight port with analog control than whatever retcons and extra characters Nomura would add to the line. I enjoyed Advent Children in a popcorny way, but the rest has been pure swill.

Agreed. I feel now like Nomura getting to toy around with FF7 is like Lucas's toying around with the old Star Wars films. We really don't NEED more of that horrible annoying Gackt character whose name I can't even remember from Crisis Core...
If this is true, it's one of those "can't believe it wasn't done sooner" things. Really, SE has done a *cough, cough* great *cough, cough* job at raiding past successes for every dime their worth. The company is glutton, not the sleek, inventive company it was before the Spirits Within fiasco made the Enix merger necessary.

I agree with that utterly.

I'm still disappointed that they chose not to add analog support to the PSN release. Playing the game on the PSP's d-pad is particularly hellish.
On a related note, has anyone dropped for the PSN release of FFVIII yet?
Yes, I did. I haven't started it yet though, except to watch the intro around three times. I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into it. While I had my complaints back in the day, there was much about it I loved and I only played it through once so I'm ready for another go. If even just to hear The Landing piece in context again.
Personally, seeing a lot of FF8 blown up on a big screen during the Distant Worlds concert reminded me more of why I didn't ever feel like seeing it again rather than any sense of "maybe it wasn't that bad." Also, EVERY ps3 plays PS1 games, so like hell I'm giving Sony money for it in digital download format for anything I already own a physical copy of.

Can't fit a PSOne disc in a PSP, though. And having the game in portable format is worth ten bones to a lot of folks.

Yeah, good point, I guess. And here I keep wishing they'd do a model of PSP that hooks up to the TV AND lets me use a Dualshock 3. Or heck... just give me a UMD add-on for the PS3 ala the Gameboy Player for the Gamecube...

I'm pretty sure the PSP Go both hooks up to a TV and can use a Dual Shock 3, though you need a different set of cables to hook it up to the TV than the ones for the PSP-2000/3000.

Which is the REAL reason Sony hates custom firmware. It's quite easy -- and perfect -- to make your own rips of PSX games and play them.

Yes, but...... didn't FFVIII in particular have a lot of problems running properly? Or have they found workarounds for that by now?

Considering that FFVIII was recently made available on PSN, I'd say they have...

Prior to that, I meant. I'd heard there were initial problems with running self-dumped ISOs via PSP ---> PSX emulators. That, and because the game was spread out over multiple discs.
