I wouldn't say friendly, but they are definitely passive and calm tempered... as long as you don't disturb them while they rest. The tarantula has turned to face me the first few times I tried to clean its tank. Now I use tweezers and a plastic container if she doesn't want to cooperate. For the scorpion, he absolutely hates getting his cave being lifted when I want to check up on him. Bares his pincers wide open but hasn't stung the tweezers yet.
If interested in centipedes, best to grab a copy of Orin McMonigle's Giant Centipedes Enthusiast's Handbook and read it through. I hear the US native species Scolopendra polymorpha or Scolopendra heros are the best ones to start with since they are not as fast/prone to bite as the South American/African/Asian species.
I plan on getting a S. polymorpha eventually, they look striking with their coloration.

If only you knew how many people give that name to their first tarantula, it occurs more often than you think.
