Our own shdwrlm currently features one, but I've been noticing these types of avatars popping up at an alarming rate:

They're insanely adorable, but my question is, where on earth do they come from?  I've noticed they've been taking the form of mostly video game, anime and film characters. (With an emphasis on Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, and Capcom characters in general.)  Are these the works of one person or group?

Scribblenauts, I think. The DS game.

Though, given the characters, they can't come directly from Scribblenauts but they look so like it. I must be completely wrong.

And another edit: Yep, they seem to be fan-made Scribblenaut characters that mostly seem to have come from here - http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread. … 32&page=24

Yup, they're inspired by Scribblenauts. Edison Yan, the artist who helped design the art style of the game, is most likely the one responsible for the Final Fantasy and Street Fighter avatars you've seen:

Final Fantasy VI
Final Fantasy VII

Street Fighter II
Street Fighter III
Street Fighter Alpha 3 (Including Maki and Eagle!)
Street Fighter IV

Mystery solved.  Thanks for the reply, guys!

That Neogaf thread is full of awesome.  I've only gone through half of the posts, but some of my personal favorites so far:

Snake!
Ammy!

Oh, God. That Amaterasu one made my heart explode. You don't get much cuter than that.

I'm a bit surprised you haven't adopted the Snake one as your own avatar on STC, Angie.

If someone gets around to making Gundam themed ones, I will die a happy man.

There are two rules I usually adhere by when choosing my STC avatars.  They should be fairly obvious; can you name them?

I can only guess one: The avatar has to be female?

Is the other no photographs?

Yea to the first, nay to the second.

Here's a hint: it has to do with the frequency in which I change 'em up.

Does the character also have to be bespectacled? Although, I remember you used the Rhythm Tengoku Gold girl before, and she doesn't wear glasses.

My guess is your avatar usually has something to do with the game you're currently playing through; at least, that's what I do with mine, anyway...

You got it.  I generally don't go backwards either, and try to stick with avatars that reflect the latest game release that I'm playing.  But, well..... as you can see with my current Valkyria Chronicles one (go Varrot!), it's a rule I'm willing to bend from time to time. wink

Nah.  While I'm certainly pro-specky, it ain't a requirement.

When I think about it, I haven't used very many characters with glasses.  Just Bayonetta, I think..... Jeanne, too, though it's not often she actually wears them over her eyes.

Haven't played the game, so I'm unfamiliar with her character, but she from her looks, she reminds me of Lady Une from Gundam Wing, between the glasses, and her hair done up into a bun! (If I got a PS3, I'd definitely pick up Valkyria; unfortunately, I'm told it's become somewhat or a rarity, these days).
