So, after having yet another bad experience on eBay, I've decided to swear off of eBay except for items that are small, cheap, non-mechanical, and non-electronic.  I have thus shut the door on my main means of obtaining a 60GB PS3.

There must be some other way of applying a smoothing filter to PS2 games, mustn't there?

I'd recommend you try the HD Box Pro.  I use one for my PS2 and Wii and I seriously swear by it.  It's an upscaler and you can customize the video settings which could possibly achieve the "smoothing" you're looking for.  Everyone who comes over always asks me how my PS2/Wii games look so good on my 46" LCD HDTV and I always just point to the box.  I prefer my real PS2 running through the HD Box Pro rather than PS2 games on my original 60gb PS3.

I was going to say, miker had posted about the HD Box Pro in another thread. I'm interested in it myself, I'm kind of scared how my older games (especially PS1 & back) will look on a newer TV when I get one. Then again, I've always thought of buying a big, huge, used analog set just for them.

Still, I'm happy with my old analog set until it breaks.

This seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.  Thanks!  Do you manually swap cables for the PS2 and Wii, or do you have the HD Box Pro connected to a component switch box?

You're not alone in that thought.  I got as far as emailing a few Craigslist sellers at one point, but luckily didn't follow through as I have no room for a big CRT TV, haha.  It is tempting though.  Some day I'll probably take the plunge.  Prolly grab a 37"+ Sony Trinitron or something and play the shit out of my Genesis and SNES.  I actually do have a way to hook my Genesis up to my HDTV via true component video and it's gorgeous.. but that's another story. smile

I just manually swap.  I play my games in phases so it works out well.  I'll be on a PS2/PS1 kick for a month and then I'll be addicted to Wii games for the next month.  Works out nicely.

Keep in mind though that your TV needs a VGA-in for the HD Box Pro to work, since that's the only video-out that it has.  I think there are similar boxes out there that can do component or s-video but they're probably more expensive.

I've kind of taken the plunge on this. I know most won't consider a 27" TV to be that huge, but it's bigger than what I've currently got and my friend sold it to me for $40. He just had to get a new HDTV when he got his income tax rebate and if he's throwing prefectly good electronics out the window for practically nothing, well, I'm going to grab some.

All I know is when I play Street Fighter 4 on my friend's HDTV, it's like playing with shackles on. Going to my 27 inch CRT is like boosting the Turbo up a notch because of the responsiveness increase.

When I get my condo set up, I plan on keeping my CRT for fighters/rhythm games and my older consoles and getting a large HDTV solely for watching stuff (and playing RPG's....cuz who cares if the control lags a bit in those. ;p)

Oh?  What about the Judgment Ring?

Hopefully it's not as bad as getting mauled by a hard Rock Band solo or trying to FADC into an ultra in Street Fighter IV in lag.
